Hi...I am due tomorrow with my first child. I woke up this morning with contractions. They were painful, felt like really bad menstrual cramps and spread from back to abdomen. I was timing them for awhile but they were irregular so I stopped. I had a dr.'s appt. at 10am and he checked me and said my cervix was thin and soft but no dilation. Well, the contractions have continued all day and I still have them now. They still are irregular but painful. I have not lost my mucous plug yet or had any bloody show. I guess my question is...Is this the start of labor??? I dont know what to expect. Any advice is appreciated.

It sounds like you are having actual contractions. Did your doc tell you you hadn't lost your mucus plug or have you not seen it? Not everyone knows when they lose it. Just go walk, walk, walk and hopefully the contractions will get more regular :)

Call your doctor and sounds like you should be on your way to the hospital...good luck and keep us posted!

I will tell ya...if you do go to the hospital..because they are not regular they might send you home. Especially if you aren't/dont progress any. I had contractions likeyou had for two days before I went into the hospital....IT SUCKS big time. And I know they hurt a lot. But keep active and they will become regular...oh and it never hurts to go into L&D cuz the worst thing they can do is send you home..and at least then you'll know whats going on....I didn't go into the hospital till mine were 3 mins apart and lasting for over a minute....I had trouble timming mine too. GOOD LUCK!!!

You'll know it's time when it's time. :) It sounds like contractions to me - with my son I was sitting at dinner and all of a sudden I got those horrid period like pains and they got worse and worse and worse. They ended up being 7 minutes apart and I called and they had me come in. I was also already 5cm and 90% effaced so I was well on my way. Hang in there - time them - and get some rest! Sounds like it's not far off and you'll need your rest. :)
