| Answer: hi, I turned 40 in March and am pregnant. I was pregnant for the first time when I was 24 but at 14 weeks I miscarried. I became pregnant the 2nd time at 37 with my beautiful son with no complications whatsoever, even tho my age was constantly brought up. (I was 38 when I had him) I am now pregnant again and up until this weekend was trying to just enjoy the pregnancy. This past friday I started spotting and when it didnt stop after a couple of days went in for an ultra sound this morning. The u/s shows a sac but they could not see a baby. the dr. told me not to write off the pregnancy yet which is exactly what I was doing. she said it may be too early and even tho I know the exact day of conception, the dates could be off since Im supposed to be just at 7 weeks. She also told me not to worry about the spotting, as long as its only "spotting". I have to go in next week for another u/s, but as much as I am hopeful, I am still scared. I fear its a blighted ovum which could be a result of my age. Even if I dont miscarry I still worry that the baby will be healthy. I wish you all the best and even tho Im having complications, I know many women who have had healthy children over the age of 35 and even in their 40's. = |
| Answer: Hi- I'm 38, will be 39 on the 24th of June. I am 13 weeks pregnant and a basket case with worry. Just had my NT scan yesterday and all appears well, I just did not know how common miscarriages are and am constantly worried since reading all the ladies stories on these boards. I wish you all well in your pregnancies. Ramcam- good luck at your scan, maybe you just ovulated late and are not quite as far along as you have calculated? Colleen = |
| Answer: I am 37 and just found out that I am pregnant. I am a bit worried about all that can go wrong, but I am basically in good health. My first doctor's appointment is in 2 weeks and I'm worried that I should be taking some kind of vitamin now. I don't want to wait 2 weeks before I get something. Anyone thinks it'll be okay to buy some over the counter prenatal vits? = |
| Answer: hi, I just turned 36 last month. I have a 14 month old after having 3 recurrent early mc's in 2005 and 2006. I'm currently 5 weeks along with a u/s schedueld for next week. I'm quite nervous because of my past history. Kas, YES go and get some prenatals. You need those nutrients right now. Mine were over the counter (Stuart brand). They are 30 bucks but worth it. Good luck to everyone!!! = |
| Answer: hi ladies. thank you for the responses :) ram...hang in there as it is early. no matter how we know ourselves, our badies have been known to do odd things and perhaps you really are off about your conception dates. i have read this same story on this site and the results have come out positively. please keep us posted. clindholm, stesseing about miscarriage is bad for you and the baby...you should be celebrating passing the 12 week mark as the rate of miscarriage goes down sinificantly after the 12th week. yay! you have hit a milestone. remember the power of positive thinking. Kas... you can by over the counter prenatal vitamins at most drugstores. alos, get folic acid and take that daily as well. it is very important to the development of the spinal colum, brain etc ( helps prevent against neural tube defects. congrats! yay kristine! babydust!!!! and no worrying when there is no reason to! hugs = |
| Answer: Thanks girls I'll go out and get some today = |
| Answer: I am 37 and 4 1/2 weeks pregnant with my first child. My fiance' and I have been together 8 years. We were recently discussing planning a wedding. I told my fiance' I did not want to plan a wedding and then wait another year to try to start having a family. I have read and been told about how difficult it is to get pregnant over 35. So thinking it would take me anywhere from 6 months to a year we started trying. Well we got pregnant the first month!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited, but also share the same fears about miscarriage. I have always lead a healthy lifestyle with diet and exercise. I feel that is why I had no problem getting pregnant. I am praying that this pregnancy is just as healthy as a 21 year old!!!!! I had mostly all the pregnancy symptoms (except nausea) before I took my test....Now I really do not have very many symptoms.....I am very concerned and praying everyday that this pregnancy comes to life. I return back to the doctor in 3 weeks to make sure there is a heartbeat.

| Answer: I'm 39 , 8 weeks into my first pregnancy. We have a 13 year old daughter whom we adopted. She's our pride and joy!! This pregnancy was a surprise blessing! = |
| Answer: Oh and Clindholm, we share the same birthday! I'll be 39 on the 24th of June also!! = |
| Answer: Hey Seashelle, that's pretty cool about our birthday's. We were looking onto adoption when we got pg the first time and would still love too as there are so many sweet kids that need a loving home, that is so wonderful that you have adopted and conceived as well! Congrats on your pregnancy!!! = |
| Answer: Thanks Clindholm. Adopting our daughter was the best decision we have ever made. It was very rewarding for all of us and very emotional too I might add. She is anxiously awaiting the arrival of her bother/sister in january. I thought that she would be embarrassed around her frineds but she happily told everyone! Always surprising us!
I understand your anxiety about being pregnant! I'm a basket case also! Good luck with your pregnancy. = |
| Answer: Hi, I'm 44 and I just found out I'm pregnant...I was pregnant for the first time when I was 28. I am 6 weeks pregnant and single. I have a 50 year old boyfriend who expressed that he does not want any more kids...I'm scared to tell him. = |
| Answer: Congratulations to all of you over 35 pregnant mommas!!! I'm 39 years old and 30 weeks pregnant with my 2nd boy also. My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage 3 years ago. The following year (2006) I had my precious little 19 month old boy. I'm looking forward to having another boy. Even though I'm sure they will both keep me on my toes. I'm a little apprehensive about the pregnancy though because I got preeclampia and HELLP syndrome with my last pregnancy and also had severe itchy skin during my last month. My last pregnancy seemed smooth and during the last month all hell broke loose. Hoping for a better one this time. I also had the NT scan and the odds for down syndrome did not sound great for me but I'm praying and keeping my faith that all will be perfect with the pregnancy and with the baby too! = |
| Answer: When is everone's due date?? if you know your due date, let us know. Mine is August 27th. = |
| Answer: Hi girls- plynn- that's terrible that you're afraid to tell him. It's not your fault, after all it takes 2! I really hope he handles it ok and is happy. When do you plan on telling him? Perl- congrats, your almost there! Wow that sounds like your last pg was a rough one. They say the chances of the preeclampsia is only 3-5% more if you have had it in the past. I'm not due til 12/10, just 14 weeks along and a nervous wreck. What did they say at the NT? They can be wrong and it only tells you the odds, not conclusively. I had my NT last week and luckily it went well. Nice to meet you all. Colleen = |
| Answer: My due date is Feb 10th 2009 = |
| Answer: Hello I am 35 years old and I am pregnant for the 2nd time. The first one ended in an ectopic pregnancy 2 years ago. I am also planning a wedding. Me and my fiance have only been together for 6 months but decided very early in our relationship to get married. I was with my last boyfriend for 5 years and we were actually trying to have a child and was having difficulties. My first hcg level was 1540 which concerned me since that was after my 2ww. I had IUI on May 27th. My second hcg level is only 1873 on June 12, and I started having a pure like discharge. I have to go back to the doctor on Monday but I have a co-worker who became pregnant at 42 nauturally and one that became pregnant at 48 and both had normal pregnancy and health children. = |
| Answer: Colleen: congrats to you and your good NT results. The NT measurements were great all within normal range and no echogenic spots on any of the organs (although there was a slight scare that turned out to be the ultrasound' equipment's fault). The odds got worse only after my blood test---based on the chemistry in my blood and based on my age. I'm at risk for a DS baby but like I said, I'm praying that all will be alright. = |
| Answer: If you ladies don't hear from me in a few weeks, it's because we have to move everything out of our house to have new floors installed (including my desk and computer). Please keep this thread alive though! I enjoy hearing about your pregnancies and hope to read more updates when I'm back. Until then--congratulations again everyone and good luck with your pregnancies. My next ob/gyn appointment is this Thursday. I'll be back when the floors are done or sooner if I find my laptop!!! = |
| Answer: yamen- congrats on your pregnancy and wedding and sorry to hear of your loss. How did your doctors appointment go? Hope all is well with your little one. Perl- they always put us over 35'ers at a very high risk, but to be honest, I personally have not heard of any problems with all the ladies I know of that have had babies at our age. I wonder where these numbers are come from. Since the NT went well, I'm sure your little one will be fine. Good luck at your appt this Thursday and please update us when you can (I know it's difficult having the house torn apart). Colleen = |
| Answer: hi ladies....wow, this thread got long....how exciting! i hope that every one is well. :) tomorrow i have an ultrasound. its actually one of a few i have to watch my babies kindneys. when i went in for the big u/s at 5 months, they found urine backed in to his kidneys and have been monitoring it. one kidney has stayed the same and the other got a little better. apparently this hapeens with boys quite a lot and my dr. doesnt seem worried at all. in fact she told me it almost always clears up. worst case scenario theyd have to take heim early or put a stint in after birth. the specialist isnt worried either so i certainly am not. the time between that initial diagnosis and the first follow up was rough, but now everything is ok. anyway....hope everyone has a great day! = |
| Answer: For a good laugh you have to read this!!!!!!! I am 37 and my fiance' is 48. Over the weekend we told his mom that she is going to be a grandmother.....she said "oh my god the dog is pregnant????????????" = |
| Answer: Hi all. Am 42 and around 91/2 wks pregnant with my first baby. My Husband and I are still in shock as we had just decided a few months ago to let nature take it's course and bingo - first time result! We had our first scan last week and that made it real. Couldn't believe we were looking at something inside me that had a beating heart and was waving it's arms! I know we are very lucky but we've been told some scary stats e.g. 1:50 chance of Downs Syndrome. In our hearts, we feel that all is well but only an amnio will show for sure and that 's 6 wks away. Apart from that, I've had it easy so far - no sickness, just a very tender chest and fatigue. I've even lost weight but I think that's down to no more red wine, cheese and crackers every night! Also I became vegetarian in March after a Tony Tobbins event so it's been a life changing few months in every way.
Bye for now = |
| Answer: Thats great news MrsT!!!! Your story sounds just like mine. I am 37 and had no problem getting pregnant (we are 6 weeks now). I also lost some weight during the past 6 weeks.....I also contributed this to not drinking wine at night or on weekends. As for the risks at our ages......I discussed this concern on my first doctors appointment. My doctor told me that I am NOT to listen to anyone, take care of myself and enjoy the pregnancy. Reading about all the risks can drive you insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Continue to take good care of yourself and best of luck!!!! = |
| Answer: Leslie- I'm glad that the problem is not a big deal. I had my lo early- 36 1/2 weeks and although small, she was and is just perfect. I'm sure yours will be too. Dog- that is tooo funny, gotta love the MIL's! Mrs T- that is wonderful, congrats!!! Do NOT listen to those stats!!! You will get a 1st Trimester screening(11-14 weeks) consisting of bloodwork and an ultrsound that will scan for chromosomal defects. Also there is a 2nd Trimester screening (18-20 weeks) which will also check for that kind of thing. THEY CAN BE WRONG! I had a scare last time and my girl is perfect. But you don't need to do an invasive amnio w/ risk of miscarriage. Try to relax (I wish I could take my own advice!) Colleen = |
| Answer: hi ladies. so my baby's kidneys are just fine!!!!! and i gor some 3D pics! too cool. so i have had some off and on cramps since 4am. i have been ordered to drink 3 liters of water today and stay in bed. hard to stay in bed when you cant stop peeing!!!! = |
| Answer: I hi im 39 and 7wks pregnant with my 2nd child (my other one is 12)i was lucky it only took 4 months ,how ever i am experiencing cramping
like mild period cramping ,and of coarse worried
everytime i go to the washroom expecting the worse ,although i have had no sign of blood at all
but reading other womans forums about being pregnant and then they go for their first ultra sound only to find out the baby isn't living anymore and they have had no symtons .my first drs appt is in 2weeks ,hopefully i will get a positve reasurance = |
| Answer: Leslie, that's wonderful! ROXBOX- congrats on your pregnancy! I also will be 39 on Tuesday. I had the period like cramps for the first few weeks as well, I was told it was normal. You may want to call the doc & let them know that you're cramping, it may set your mind at ease if they decide to bring you in early or tell you it's no big deal. I too am very nervous reading some of these posts, I did not realize how common miscarriages are and I worry constantly. I wish I could relax. I really don't have any symptoms so that worries me too (except tired, hungry) Colleen = |
| Answer: Hi to all of you,
I'm 42 and just had my third baby over 35....that's all three of them too.
All of them are absolutely perfect and were straightforward pregnancies and homebirths. We conceived in month 1, month 4, and month one. I also had one chemical pregnancy at 39 (lasted just 2-3 days after my period was due).
My partner is seven years younger than me and all our conceptions have been natural.
I have two sons and a daughter, aged 5, 15 months and nearly three weeks.
Congrats to all on their babies, and good luck to those trying to conceive.
Things can certainly go wrong, but usually they won't, so it's worth chasing your dream.... = |
| Answer: Hi Ladies,
I am 37 and about 4.3 weeks pregnant with my first. I am finding it frustrating that I can not talk to anyone about the symptoms I am having. I have read some of the threads here and I am happy to hear some of you had no troubles. When I found out I was pregnant last week, I went in for a blood test then another one two days later. The Dr. told me my levels had doubled and that was good. Since, I found out I was pregnant, my bbs have been very sore and I have had slight cramping. Now, I know these symptoms are normal. The thing is, the cramping has subsided with the exception of very faint ones... occaisionally. The bbs are not nearly as sore. I have had no morning sickness or spotting as I have read in some other threads. I have the first u/s scheduled for 7/7. I am nervous after reading all the threads that there is a possibility of a non-viable pregnancy. I know I am getting my panties all in a bundle over worry about all the stuff I have read and heard. How do I not worry so much. Does anyone know the percentage of non-viable pregnancies and is the percentage rate for mis-carriages higher for women over 35? Ladies, I am so nervous! Especially, since my symptoms have almost disappeared. = |
| Answer: Hi Maho!!!!
I am also 37 and 7 weeks pregnant. I also drove myself crazy the first few weeks I knew I was pregnant. Somedays I felt symptoms, other days I did not. I went to the doctor at 4 weeks and he said it was too early to tell if my pregnancy was viable so I had to wait 3 more weeks to see if there is a heartbeat. Yesterday my 3 week wait wait was over.......Yes we have a heartbeat and everything is right on track! Stay positive and just take care of yourself. = |
| Answer: Thanks DogMom! I actually just called my doctor and asked how many weeks they thought I was according to the blood test. They told me I was about 3.5 weeks (so I was close). Thank you and I will try not to obsess too much...it's so hard:( I just pray every day that everything will go as it was meant to be.:) Thanks for your story, it helps knowing others are as nutty as myself ;) Good luck to you and I will keep my fingers crossed for you. = |
| Answer: Hi Maho and congrats!- I just turned 39 on Tuesday and am 16 weeks with our second. I have never had morning sickness with either of my pg's, but I have had the cramping, sore bb's and a ridiculous appetite. I too worry all the time and cannot offer any advice on how NOT to worry. I am actually considering renting a doppler from belly beats to check the heartbeat between doctor visits. My doc actually humored me at my last appt, and brought me back in two weeks (which will be tomorrow) just to ck the heartbeat for my peace of mind. Until I feel movement, I will worry like crazy, I think it's normal. dogmom- sooo glad to hear your wait is over and all is well with your little one. Colleen = |
| Answer: Thanks clindholm and dogmom for sharing your stories.Glad to hear symptoms can vary as you both have experienced. I have to decided to try and let it go...try to let nature take it's course...hopefully it will be a happy and healthy course:) I need to let go of the fear...FEAR = False Evidences Appearing Real:) = |
| Answer: Maho,
I also forgot to mention just how insane I was getting the first few weeks. I have never been much of a religous fanatic, but I started praying several times a day. I turned to my husband one night and said to him "I am going to find a church by my job and go there to pray on my lunch breaks". My husband told me I was becomming nuts so I never did go and find the nearest church. = |
| Answer: dogmom- I hear ya on the praying, I do it all the time. You don't need a church, God hears you anyway. It helps me alot. I will probably be just as insane until December. Pregnancy is ridiculously long! = |
| Answer: Just adding another post for those 35+. I am 41 years old and 17 weeks pregnant with my first. We became pregnant almost right away and so far things have been going well. I have been VERY lucky to have no nausea at all and almost no pregnancy symptoms. Everything looked great on my last ultrasound and just waiting amno results now. The waiting is hard, even though I feel pretty confident that all is fine. = |
| Answer: Hi all. I'm now 12 weeks pregnant and looking forward to my second scan next week. I still haven't had many symptoms - lucky me! The only downside with this is that sometimes I wonder if I am still pregnant! I was even thinking about buying a Fetal Doppler. I'm in two minds though, as I think I might become obsessive and start checking for a heartbeat every 5 minutes! Because of my age (42), I am pretty sure I will have an amnio. Halifax41, did you have yours at 16 wks? What did it feel like and how long do you have to wait for the results? Thanks. = |
| Answer: MrsT, I had my amnio done on June 24, I am hoping to have the initial fast results (in a day or two, would have been sooner except for the timing of when the amnio was drawn, when the lab they send it out to would have received, it and the timing of a weekend), the full results usually take 2 weeks or so depending on how busy the lab is, although I have seen some people get results in 8-10 days). As far as the amnio itself, the needle was pretty painless, I had a little extra pain simply because my uterus decided to tense up and they had to wait for it to relax before advancing the needle the rest of the way (uterus muscle is very tough when contracted and it is such a thin needle they use). The drawing of the fluid is very quick and I felt nothing from that. I had some mild cramping off and on for a couple hours afterwards and simply rested which helped that ease. Overall it wasn't bad and some women don't even get any cramping, so for them it wouldn't feel much worse than a typical blooddraw would. I have felt the same way, my lack of symptoms makes it hard not to have a little worry once in awhile. A doppler would be comforting at those times. = |
| Answer: MrsT, oops missed one part of my answer, I had mine done at 16 weeks 3 days. The ultrasound they do before and during the amnio is great, got to see the little one kicking and waving arms and doing "yoga poses" ;-) They scan briefly afterwards as well so you can see all is well and that the heartbeat is good and strong. = |
| Answer: Hi Halifax41. Thanks for the detailed answer. I'm not good with needles so will probably insist on a blindfold before I even enter the room! I'm very glad to hear that the process isn't painful and feel more reassured in knowing that there will be constant scans/monitoring. This whole situation feels very surreal and I'm not switched on emotionally yet. Does anyone else feel like they're on the outside looking in? = |
| Answer: Hi Halifax and MrsT- Congrats to you both! Just a question, I see you both had the amnio, why did the doctor recommend it? Was there a specific reason or just due to age? I have also considered renting the doppler, it's about $45 per month at least until I feel more movement. I hope you all are feeling well! Colleen = |
| Answer: clindholm, hi there! My husband and I decided on the amnio ourselves after doing a lot of reading on-line about the screening tests (that simply give you odds, and have frequent false positive and sometimes give false negatives) versus the certainty of having amnio results where they have looked at the chromosomes. For us, given our ages, and some other personal reasons, we simply wanted to have the assurance of this test (or in the worst case to be aware of what we were dealing with and go forward from there). My scans and the NT were fine, but I guess we needed more certainty.
Been feeling great, have basically had no pregnancy symptoms to speak of. Still have yet to feel movement and barely showing, would make a doppler a nice thing to have, just for reassurance. See my doctor in 3 more days, will be so happy to hear heartbeat again...the amnio went well but have had slight nerves since. = |
| Answer: Hi Everyone! Dogmom here.......This is my first pregnancy (at 37) and I am having some strange symptoms. I am just going into my 8th week, I do get nausea from time to time, but instead of vomiting I get the runs!!!! My stomach is constantly churning and I always feel like I can get another stomach attack any second. Anyone else ever experience this???????? = |
| Answer: Hi DogMom,
I think I am entering my 5th week and all of a sudden my symptoms have changed. I went from the big "C" to now the big "D". It's not constant..but it's there and it almost feels like my stomach is aching. I just bought "Everything you need to know about pregnancy" book and each time I have a symptom, I just look it up in the book. It says symptoms vary from woman to woman (obviously), but there is something about the big "D". The one thing it mentions is to make SURE you are staying hydrated. If it gets too severe, I would just call your Dr's off and talk to a nurse. I hope you feel better soon. = |
| Answer: Thanks Maho,
I have been reading the same book "what to expect when your expecting." The book said what ever is normal for you would be normal during pregnancy. I always had the same problem right around the time of my period and now it seems to be following me into my pregnancy. = |
| Answer: Congratulations to all you preggo's. I just wanted to intervene if I may. I rented a doppler during my pregnancy. It was absolutely amazing to check on the babies hb throughout my pregnancy. I had a loss just prior to my successful pregnancy as the babies hb just stopped beating at 14 weeks so the doppler was the such a great investment. I got mine from babybeat dot com (I think that was the site) Mine was I think $25 a month at the time and it came with the ultrasound gel..I also picked up some extra gel..but didn ot use it all. I used my doppler up until just a week b4 baby was born. So I reccommend getting one. It is a nice keepsake to have the hb if you want to record it too. BEst of luck to all of you..very happy for you all. BTW I have one child 18 months. I am 40 and I am ttc my second :) cheers. = |
| Answer: Hi Clindholm. I have only had one scan so far at the first visit with my consultant. I had submitted paperwork stating that I wanted the Nuchal Scan and triple test but no amnio. Then, when we met, he said that at 42, I had a 1:50 chance of having a Downs baby and that an amnio was the only way of finding out for sure. He suggested that I think very carefully about taking the test and added that the risk of harm to the baby was minimal. I think that consultants are obliged through 'Best Practice' to make us aware of risks and where possible, steer us in a direction where we still have choices...i.e. to keep or not to keep. My husband and I have a disabled niece and nephew and those children have brought joys which far and away compensate for the hard times. I know we'll cope with whatever happens but maybe it might be good having plenty of time to prepare emotionally. Anyway, this has got far to serious! On the Doppler subject, after Kristin72's comments, I think I will get one but try to limit myself to checking a few times per day rather than every 5 minutes. = |
| Answer: Hi Dogmom, Excuse me, you're right..the name of the book; "What to Expect When Your Expecting"...Whoops. Sorry. Yes, I to would have the big"C" and big "D" pms time...and now I am experiencing the same symptoms. If your worried though, just call your Dr.'s office for piece of mind. I have my first u/s on the 7th to determine if it's "viable" and how far along I am...Should I be nervous? = |
| Answer: Hi girls- I also have that book, What to expect, it is very helpful. I have What to Expect the First Year also and that one is invaluable! Actually for me pregnancy has made me extremely regular which is nice for a change. You just never know. Hi Kristen72 thanks for the info. As soon as my paycheck goes in this week, I plan on ordering one, I will try the place you got yours, hopefully it will be a little cheaper. So sorry to hear of your loss, I'm sure you will have the little one you so desire soon! Your type of loss is exactly what I fear the most. I don't think I will have an amnio unless something comes up on the 2nd Tri scan. I really think they sometimes overplay the risk of chromosomal problems with us "older" moms. Maho- I would not worry, usually if something is wrong with the pregnancy, you would have had some signs by now. Colleen = |
| Answer: Hi again Maho,
I know it's eaiser said than done, but try not to worry before your next doctors appointment. I could not follow my own advice though. I thought the first few days before my missed period and knowing when to take a pregnancy test was the longest wait.....but no! Those 3 weeks felt like years! Even when I was in the exam room waiting for the doctor I was a mess. I was crying on the table. The doctor saw the heartbeat and had to point it out to me cause I had no idea what I was looking at! But there it was!!!!! Truly unbelivable!!! Now I cant wait for my next appointment to see how big it has gotten. = |
| Answer: Dogmom and clindholm, thank you SO much for your words of comfort...they truely chill me out. I will keep you ladies posted about my dr. apt on 7/7. One other question...have you ladies shared any of this news with your family or close friends? I told my sister who already has 2 kids, so I would have at least someone to confide in and I told my other sister who is the only relative living close to me but that's it. I want to keep it under wraps until I am in the clear....whenever that is:) = |
| Answer: I was planning on waiting until 14weeks to tell everyone, but my mom found out b/c I was at her house when my doc called and my dh just couldn't keep his mouth shut, so he told his family. As for everyone else, I waited til the 14 weeks when the dreaded first trimester is over. I think the stats are something like 90% of pregnancies after the 1st Tri end in healthy births. Dogmom- wow I thought I was bad! You were crying til you saw the heartbeat? It's those damn pregnancy hormones. I told my doc that was extremely stressed about this preg and she is having me come in every 2 weeks (instead of 4 weeks) to hear the heartbeat. I'm so glad she is humoring me and not acting like I am being ridiculous. She is the best. = |
| Answer: Hi Ladies,
Ok, I just went for my first u/s. The doc found the little embryo and we saw the little heart beating. She said it was about 4.5 week gestational (6.5 weeks regular). Now, when you all talk about your pregnancy are you talking about gestational age or "regular" pregnancy age? If I am 6.5 weeks pregnant, that means I am 1/2 way through my first tri mester...correct?:) = |
| Answer: hi, im 42 yo, i already have 2 mascarriages, first june 2007, 2nd feb 2008. my cycle is 35 days, today is my 40th days from my first day of my last period. i really wnt to be pregnat, do you think im preggy? i have my pregnancy test this morning but it shows negative, but i experiencing all the symptoms of early pregnancy = |
| Answer: Maho- I think you just go by weeks from LMP- you probably ovulate late in your cycle that's you're measuring earlier. It's such a relief to see the little heartbeat, isn't it? Monday I will go for my 2nd Tri scan for the Down's and Trisomy, really hoping it goes well. I'm very nervous since we had a false alarm last time. Hi Sansu- welcome. It does sound like you may be preg, you are 5 days late already. What brand test did you use? Some are more sensative than others. Some people don't get a positive until a few weeks late, please keep is posted- so sorry to hear of your losses, that must have been terrible. Colleen = |
| Answer: Hi I just turned 40 and just recently found out I am pregnant - my son will be 16 this year. I am very concerned about having a healthy baby and also being an older parent. It will be just like starting a brand new family Tanner will be in college and the baby will be in daycare. Any advice? = |
| Answer: clindholm, Yes, it's nice to hear the little beat. Well, I guess my question would be...how are you counting your pregnancy? Are you counting from your LMP(the first day) or are you counting gestational days? = |
| Answer: clindholm, I meant to wish you luck on Monday! Let me know how it goes:) Are these tests just blood tests or are you getting the amio? = |
| Answer: Hi Maho, I am counting from my LMP. They actually changed my due date to 3 days earlier based on the ultrasound. Do you have a long cycle and possibly ovulate late? They base everything on a 28 day cycle, ovulating on day 14. They may change the gestational age as your pregnancy progresses, these ultrasounds although fairly accurate, can sometimes be off. bvanhorn- congrats on your pregnancy! I have no advice, I had my first at 36 and my second will be at 39. Try not to let the worry of a healthy baby consume you, they have alot of testing that can make you feel better (or sometimes stress you out for no reason). Try to take it one day at a time. Maho- thanks for the good luck, I am having the Anatomy ultrasound and I believe they will do bloodwork as well (that's how it was done last time). I will let you know how it goes. I don't think I would ever do the amnio unless there was something extremely high risk and not compatible with life- I would be too afraid to risk the pregnancy. Last time they said (a different hospital than this time) that my baby probaby had Trisomy 18 and I did not get the amnio. I did alot of research on the ONE marker they found and my bloodwork was low risk. Anyway, my daughter was born just perfect. Just worried about another scare like that. Colleen = |
| Answer: Hi! I will turn 45 in August and am due in January 2009. Our daughter will be 18 when this one is born. I was on the pill so this was quite a surprise! Hope everyone has healthy pregnancies and a healthy, happy baby! = |
| Answer: Hi, Kimcat...I will also be 45 in August and I am almost 11 weeks pregnant. It was a shock to both my bf and myself and our baby is due in Feb 3. I have a daughter who is 16. We haven't told anyone because we want to make sure the baby is healthy before we start telling our kids, friends and family. = |
| Answer: Does anyone have symptoms that are there one day and not really there the next? I am 7.5 weeks pregnant. = |
| Answer: Hi Maho,
Funny you should mention symptoms fading in and out one day to the next. I was just going to ask a similar question myself. I will be starting my 10th week tomorrow and I am starting to feel like I am not pregnant anymore. The crazy hunger, nausea and extreme fatigue has started to disappear. I am starting to feel a little bit better day by day. Some days I am bloated and my regular clothes are too snug, and other days I am not bloated and my clothing fits me comfortably. I was supposed to have a doctors appointment next week, but I moved it to this week just to make sure that everything is okay. I wish we had a little window in our bellies so we can take a peek inside to see what is going on. = |
| Answer: Hi Dogmom, Maybe b/c your so close to your second tri, your symptoms are starting to disapate? Let me know how the Dr.'s apt. goes. I don't see mine until the 29th which at that point I will be 9.5 weeks. I know we are both on our first pregnancy's at 37 years old - right? Let's keep each other in check:) Good luck. = |
| Answer: Hi girls- I have read that symptoms can come and go throughout pregnancy. Welcome kimcat and plynn and congrats! Well, I'm off to my screening and should find out the sex, I'm scared but excited! = |
| Answer: Maho,
Yes we are both 37 and first time prego's. I did some online research to find out why my symptoms have eased up. I read that at 9-10 weeks the placenta takes over for hormone production where before that our bodies were responsible for the hormone production. I will just have to try to concentrate on work to take my mind off it. When I called the doctors office today the receptionist had me laughing.....I explained all my concerns and she said "okay so your feeling a bit anxious". That was putting it kindly. Before I became pregnant seeing a doctor every 4 weeks would have seemed like a pain in the butt....now having to wait 4 weeks inbetween appointments seems like an eternity. = |
| Answer: Clindholm,
Don't be scared! Have a great doctors appointment and let us know what you find out! = |
| Answer: Hey dogmom- my doc has me coming in every 2 weeks rather than 4 weeks b/c I'm so scared/worried/neurotic. Maybe your doc can do the same just to hear the heartbeat? It also gets better after you start feeling some movement. Well I found out that it is definately a boy!!! We are sooo happy! Everything looked good, but they did see a very small spot on the liver (echogenic foci) which will hopefully be nothing. The doctor wasn't worried but I will be going back between 28-30 weeks for another scan to see if it has gone away. I'm trying not to worry too much about it. How is everyone else doing? Colleen = |
| Answer: clindholm, I am glad your appointment went well. If the Dr. does not seemed concerned about the spots...I would not either...don't worry yourself. I know, it's easier SAID then done. Dogmom, Thanks for the info about the hormones...sounds logical. I hope you both are feeling well. = |
| Answer: Clindholm,
A baby boy!!!! How exciting to finally know what the sex is!!!!! Have fun shopping :-) = |
| Answer: well I am 45 and waiting to see if we are pregnant. I have a 24 yr old,21 yr old,15 yr old and a 19 month old. This will be the last. We felt that it would be unfair for our 19month old not to have a brother or sister his age, so we are trying again. Alittle worried about my age, BUT my last pregancy was wonderful, not one problem, except my gall bladder, but other than that it was great, the last one in my 40s was far better than the one in my 20 and 30. so people who are worried please dont it adds stress and you know what i think that we all are in better health and that they need to update the satistics because i think it is better to wait, and i have been on both ends and I think it is far more easier at this age, than in the 20s. = |
| Answer: Hi Alley and welcome! When can you test? How long have you been ttc? I agree that the stats cannot be as bad as they portray them. Unfortunately, I am just a hopeless worrier by nature. My last pregnancy was pretty rough but I'm optomistic that this one will be smoother. Baby dust to you! How is everyone else feeling? Colleen = |
| Answer: Hello everyone. I am 35, will be 36 when the baby arrives. This will be our 3rd. We have a 3 1/2 year old boy and a girl who will be 2 in August. I am a little nervous b/c I just got back the results of our first sequential screening test and they came back with a 1/44 chance the baby could have downs. Now I am a nervous wreck. I would like to possibly do an amnio but am worried about the risks. Also, my doc is sending us to a genetic counselor. Is this just standard for women over 35? And what about the results? I read that false positives are common. I guess I should wait and talk to the dr, but just want to see if anyone else went through this too.. Thanks! = |
| Answer: CaMomof3- I replied to your other thread. The genetic counseling is always a part of the screenings and should help to narrow down your risk. You should have a 2nd tri screening at 18-20 weeks that will be a little more accurate. As I said in the other thread, I had a Trisomy 18 scare with my last pregnancy, long story short, she is perfect and we did not get the amnio either, we were too afraid to risk the baby. I truly feel the risk by age ratio is blown out of proportion. Remember, these are NOT diagostic tests. Btw- I had my first at 37 and am now 39. Good luck, I hope your case is the same as mine- they are wrong. = |
| Answer: plynn47414, It's always good to know of someone else in a similar situation. It may be a mistake but we have already told everyone. It's so much fun to see the shocked expressions on their faces! lol
I was 14 weeks on Tuesday and we got to hear the heartbeat and even a few sounds the doctor said were baby kicks. I am scheduled for a Level 2 ultrasound on 8/11 and can't wait. I hope you are doing well, too. = |
| Answer: Kimcat..I go in for the CVS testing on Monday, so after we get the results from that and if the baby is healthy then we will start spreading the news. I'm not looking forward to telling the family...like you said they will all be shocked but hopefully accepting. How old is your husband? My boyfriend is 50. At first he was very upset, but he has came around in the last 2 weeks. We are both still scared, but I'm hoping that as the pregnancy progresses and we know that I'm healthy and the baby is healthy that we can enjoy this pregnancy. I'm kind of excited about being pregnant after 16 years. I never thought that I'd have another baby. How did your 18 year old take the news? = |
| Answer: Hi everyone, it's so helpful to hear all your experiences. I am going to be 38 in Sep, am on my 8th week pregnancy( my first ). So far having some symptoms, discomfort but I am enjoying it. I have few questions, 1st- have you heard that have ultrasounds frequently ( once a week) will harm the baby? I am going for my 3rd ultrasound next week. I have had my 1st one when only 4 weeks 3 days to confirm this is not ectopic, then at 6th week to see the heartbeat. That's why I am worry if this is too frequent. 2nd- is anyone on progesterone? I am on 30mg/day(from my dr.) as my blood test at 6th week show it went down from 24 to 16, is this drug safe for the pregnancy? 3rd-I have been charting my basal body temp since I knew I am pregnant because I heard that if the baby stop growing then your basal body temp will drop. I remembered my last pregnancy, the temp dropped a week before I starting bleeding and lead to m/c . So I will chart my basal body temp till end of 12 weeks. Have you heard about this? Or even the baby stop growing, our hormone will still keep body temp high for a while before it drop? I hope my question does not sound too silly. We all wish everything is going well with our pregnancy, thanks and looking forward to hearing more of your updates! = |
| Answer: plynn47414 0 My husband just turned 51 and is still trying to get used to the idea of being a father again at his age. Our daughter is very happy. She loves children and always volunteers to help out with them at church. = |
| Answer: Hi PP- Congrats of your pregnancy! I had also heard that there was some talk about ultrsounds being "disruptive" to a fetus. I don't think there was anything conclusive though. I had many many ultrasounds with my last pregnancy (and this one as well) and my daughter was born very healthy. I would not worry about it, just be thankful that your doctor is giving you such good care. I do not have personal experience with progesterone, but alot of women on this board have had to take it to sustain their pregnancies so I would assume it is safe. I don't know anything about bbt's either. Again, Congrats to you! = |
| Answer: Hey everyone! Dogmom here! This week I am due for my first genetic test. I elected to have the Nuchal Translucency test. I was not going to have any genetic testing done, but when I found out this test has no risk to the baby I said why not. Besides I get to see another ultrasound. I also had a few ultrasounds. 3.5 weeks to check for implantation, 6 weeks to check for the heartbeat and I just had one done this past Thursday. My last ultrasound was amazing!!!!! The baby looked like it was running in place!!!! = |
| Answer: 40 and pregnant - holy crap. We talked about it and said we'd try, then wham, first times a charm, I guess. We have a four year old daughter and now I'm regretting this pregnancy; I'm seven weeks and wish I had given this more thought. I don't want to start over again. We have it made right now, sleeping throught the night, just about to start school. It's easier to travel with one and now another one. I don't know what to do, I feel depressed and sad and that's now how I should feel. My husband is totally supportive and just wanted me to be happy, but now he's confused because I'm not happy. Anyone else in this predicament? = |
