hi....i am 39, 28 weeks pregnant with my second boy and just looking to see if any of you are out there. i like this forum topic, but i see mainly people either trying to get pregnant over 35, or think they might be or have questions about it and arent yet pregnant. that is all fantastic, but i am looking for someone like myself who is already there and older.... ↓
hi, I turned 40 in March and am pregnant. I was pregnant for the first time when I was 24 but at 14 weeks I miscarried. I became pregnant the 2nd time at 37 with my beautiful son with no complications whatsoever, even tho my age was constantly brought up. (I was 38 when I had him) I am now pregnant again and up until this weekend was trying to just enjoy the pregnancy. This past friday I started spotting and when it didnt stop after a couple of days went in for an ultra sound this morning. The u/s shows a sac but they could not see a baby. the dr. told me not to write off the pregnancy yet which is exactly what I was doing. she said it may be too early and even tho I know the exact day of conception, the dates could be off since Im supposed to be just at 7 weeks. She also told me not to worry about the spotting, as long as its only "spotting". I have to go in next week for another u/s, but as much as I am hopeful, I am still scared. I fear its a blighted ovum which could be a result of my age. Even if I dont miscarry I still worry that the baby will be healthy. I wish you all the best and even tho Im having complications, I know many women who have had healthy children over the age of 35 and even in their 40's. ↑
Hi- I'm 38, will be 39 on the 24th of June. I am 13 weeks pregnant and a basket case with worry. Just had my NT scan yesterday and all appears well, I just did not know how common miscarriages are and am constantly worried since reading all the ladies stories on these boards. I wish you all well in your pregnancies. Ramcam- good luck at your scan, maybe you just ovulated late and are not quite as far along as you have calculated? Colleen ↑
I am 37 and just found out that I am pregnant. I am a bit worried about all that can go wrong, but I am basically in good health. My first doctor's appointment is in 2 weeks and I'm worried that I should be taking some kind of vitamin now. I don't want to wait 2 weeks before I get something. Anyone thinks it'll be okay to buy some over the counter prenatal vits? ↑
hi, I just turned 36 last month. I have a 14 month old after having 3 recurrent early mc's in 2005 and 2006. I'm currently 5 weeks along with a u/s schedueld for next week. I'm quite nervous because of my past history. Kas, YES go and get some prenatals. You need those nutrients right now. Mine were over the counter (Stuart brand). They are 30 bucks but worth it. Good luck to everyone!!! ↑
hi ladies. thank you for the responses :) ram...hang in there as it is early. no matter how we know ourselves, our badies have been known to do odd things and perhaps you really are off about your conception dates. i have read this same story on this site and the results have come out positively. please keep us posted. clindholm, stesseing about miscarriage is bad for you and the baby...you should be celebrating passing the 12 week mark as the rate of miscarriage goes down sinificantly after the 12th week. yay! you have hit a milestone. remember the power of positive thinking. Kas... you can by over the counter prenatal vitamins at most drugstores. alos, get folic acid and take that daily as well. it is very important to the development of the spinal colum, brain etc ( helps prevent against neural tube defects. congrats! yay kristine! babydust!!!! and no worrying when there is no reason to! hugs ↑
I am 37 and 4 1/2 weeks pregnant with my first child. My fiance' and I have been together 8 years. We were recently discussing planning a wedding. I told my fiance' I did not want to plan a wedding and then wait another year to try to start having a family. I have read and been told about how difficult it is to get pregnant over 35. So thinking it would take me anywhere from 6 months to a year we started trying. Well we got pregnant the first month!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited, but also share the same fears about miscarriage. I have always lead a healthy lifestyle with diet and exercise. I feel that is why I had no problem getting pregnant. I am praying that this pregnancy is just as healthy as a 21 year old!!!!! I had mostly all the pregnancy symptoms (except nausea) before I took my test....Now I really do not have very many symptoms.....I am very concerned and praying everyday that this pregnancy comes to life. I return back to the doctor in 3 weeks to make sure there is a heartbeat. ↑
I'm 39 , 8 weeks into my first pregnancy. We have a 13 year old daughter whom we adopted. She's our pride and joy!! This pregnancy was a surprise blessing! ↑
Hey Seashelle, that's pretty cool about our birthday's. We were looking onto adoption when we got pg the first time and would still love too as there are so many sweet kids that need a loving home, that is so wonderful that you have adopted and conceived as well! Congrats on your pregnancy!!! ↑
Thanks Clindholm. Adopting our daughter was the best decision we have ever made. It was very rewarding for all of us and very emotional too I might add. She is anxiously awaiting the arrival of her bother/sister in january. I thought that she would be embarrassed around her frineds but she happily told everyone! Always surprising us!
I understand your anxiety about being pregnant! I'm a basket case also! Good luck with your pregnancy. ↑
Hi, I'm 44 and I just found out I'm pregnant...I was pregnant for the first time when I was 28. I am 6 weeks pregnant and single. I have a 50 year old boyfriend who expressed that he does not want any more kids...I'm scared to tell him. ↑
Congratulations to all of you over 35 pregnant mommas!!! I'm 39 years old and 30 weeks pregnant with my 2nd boy also. My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage 3 years ago. The following year (2006) I had my precious little 19 month old boy. I'm looking forward to having another boy. Even though I'm sure they will both keep me on my toes. I'm a little apprehensive about the pregnancy though because I got preeclampia and HELLP syndrome with my last pregnancy and also had severe itchy skin during my last month. My last pregnancy seemed smooth and during the last month all hell broke loose. Hoping for a better one this time. I also had the NT scan and the odds for down syndrome did not sound great for me but I'm praying and keeping my faith that all will be perfect with the pregnancy and with the baby too! ↑
Hi girls- plynn- that's terrible that you're afraid to tell him. It's not your fault, after all it takes 2! I really hope he handles it ok and is happy. When do you plan on telling him? Perl- congrats, your almost there! Wow that sounds like your last pg was a rough one. They say the chances of the preeclampsia is only 3-5% more if you have had it in the past. I'm not due til 12/10, just 14 weeks along and a nervous wreck. What did they say at the NT? They can be wrong and it only tells you the odds, not conclusively. I had my NT last week and luckily it went well. Nice to meet you all. Colleen ↑
Hello I am 35 years old and I am pregnant for the 2nd time. The first one ended in an ectopic pregnancy 2 years ago. I am also planning a wedding. Me and my fiance have only been together for 6 months but decided very early in our relationship to get married. I was with my last boyfriend for 5 years and we were actually trying to have a child and was having difficulties. My first hcg level was 1540 which concerned me since that was after my 2ww. I had IUI on May 27th. My second hcg level is only 1873 on June 12, and I started having a pure like discharge. I have to go back to the doctor on Monday but I have a co-worker who became pregnant at 42 nauturally and one that became pregnant at 48 and both had normal pregnancy and health children. ↑
Colleen: congrats to you and your good NT results. The NT measurements were great all within normal range and no echogenic spots on any of the organs (although there was a slight scare that turned out to be the ultrasound' equipment's fault). The odds got worse only after my blood test---based on the chemistry in my blood and based on my age. I'm at risk for a DS baby but like I said, I'm praying that all will be alright. ↑
If you ladies don't hear from me in a few weeks, it's because we have to move everything out of our house to have new floors installed (including my desk and computer). Please keep this thread alive though! I enjoy hearing about your pregnancies and hope to read more updates when I'm back. Until then--congratulations again everyone and good luck with your pregnancies. My next ob/gyn appointment is this Thursday. I'll be back when the floors are done or sooner if I find my laptop!!! ↑
yamen- congrats on your pregnancy and wedding and sorry to hear of your loss. How did your doctors appointment go? Hope all is well with your little one. Perl- they always put us over 35'ers at a very high risk, but to be honest, I personally have not heard of any problems with all the ladies I know of that have had babies at our age. I wonder where these numbers are come from. Since the NT went well, I'm sure your little one will be fine. Good luck at your appt this Thursday and please update us when you can (I know it's difficult having the house torn apart). Colleen ↑
hi ladies....wow, this thread got long....how exciting! i hope that every one is well. :) tomorrow i have an ultrasound. its actually one of a few i have to watch my babies kindneys. when i went in for the big u/s at 5 months, they found urine backed in to his kidneys and have been monitoring it. one kidney has stayed the same and the other got a little better. apparently this hapeens with boys quite a lot and my dr. doesnt seem worried at all. in fact she told me it almost always clears up. worst case scenario theyd have to take heim early or put a stint in after birth. the specialist isnt worried either so i certainly am not. the time between that initial diagnosis and the first follow up was rough, but now everything is ok. anyway....hope everyone has a great day! ↑
For a good laugh you have to read this!!!!!!! I am 37 and my fiance' is 48. Over the weekend we told his mom that she is going to be a grandmother.....she said "oh my god the dog is pregnant????????????" ↑
Hi all. Am 42 and around 91/2 wks pregnant with my first baby. My Husband and I are still in shock as we had just decided a few months ago to let nature take it's course and bingo - first time result! We had our first scan last week and that made it real. Couldn't believe we were looking at something inside me that had a beating heart and was waving it's arms! I know we are very lucky but we've been told some scary stats e.g. 1:50 chance of Downs Syndrome. In our hearts, we feel that all is well but only an amnio will show for sure and that 's 6 wks away. Apart from that, I've had it easy so far - no sickness, just a very tender chest and fatigue. I've even lost weight but I think that's down to no more red wine, cheese and crackers every night! Also I became vegetarian in March after a Tony Tobbins event so it's been a life changing few months in every way.
Bye for now ↑
Thats great news MrsT!!!! Your story sounds just like mine. I am 37 and had no problem getting pregnant (we are 6 weeks now). I also lost some weight during the past 6 weeks.....I also contributed this to not drinking wine at night or on weekends. As for the risks at our ages......I discussed this concern on my first doctors appointment. My doctor told me that I am NOT to listen to anyone, take care of myself and enjoy the pregnancy. Reading about all the risks can drive you insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Continue to take good care of yourself and best of luck!!!! ↑
Leslie- I'm glad that the problem is not a big deal. I had my lo early- 36 1/2 weeks and although small, she was and is just perfect. I'm sure yours will be too. Dog- that is tooo funny, gotta love the MIL's! Mrs T- that is wonderful, congrats!!! Do NOT listen to those stats!!! You will get a 1st Trimester screening(11-14 weeks) consisting of bloodwork and an ultrsound that will scan for chromosomal defects. Also there is a 2nd Trimester screening (18-20 weeks) which will also check for that kind of thing. THEY CAN BE WRONG! I had a scare last time and my girl is perfect. But you don't need to do an invasive amnio w/ risk of miscarriage. Try to relax (I wish I could take my own advice!) Colleen ↑
hi ladies. so my baby's kidneys are just fine!!!!! and i gor some 3D pics! too cool. so i have had some off and on cramps since 4am. i have been ordered to drink 3 liters of water today and stay in bed. hard to stay in bed when you cant stop peeing!!!! ↑
I hi im 39 and 7wks pregnant with my 2nd child (my other one is 12)i was lucky it only took 4 months ,how ever i am experiencing cramping
like mild period cramping ,and of coarse worried
everytime i go to the washroom expecting the worse ,although i have had no sign of blood at all
but reading other womans forums about being pregnant and then they go for their first ultra sound only to find out the baby isn't living anymore and they have had no symtons .my first drs appt is in 2weeks ,hopefully i will get a positve reasurance ↑
Leslie, that's wonderful! ROXBOX- congrats on your pregnancy! I also will be 39 on Tuesday. I had the period like cramps for the first few weeks as well, I was told it was normal. You may want to call the doc & let them know that you're cramping, it may set your mind at ease if they decide to bring you in early or tell you it's no big deal. I too am very nervous reading some of these posts, I did not realize how common miscarriages are and I worry constantly. I wish I could relax. I really don't have any symptoms so that worries me too (except tired, hungry) Colleen ↑
Hi to all of you,
I'm 42 and just had my third baby over 35....that's all three of them too.
All of them are absolutely perfect and were straightforward pregnancies and homebirths. We conceived in month 1, month 4, and month one. I also had one chemical pregnancy at 39 (lasted just 2-3 days after my period was due).
My partner is seven years younger than me and all our conceptions have been natural.
I have two sons and a daughter, aged 5, 15 months and nearly three weeks.
Congrats to all on their babies, and good luck to those trying to conceive.
Things can certainly go wrong, but usually they won't, so it's worth chasing your dream.... ↑
Hi Ladies,
I am 37 and about 4.3 weeks pregnant with my first. I am finding it frustrating that I can not talk to anyone about the symptoms I am having. I have read some of the threads here and I am happy to hear some of you had no troubles. When I found out I was pregnant last week, I went in for a blood test then another one two days later. The Dr. told me my levels had doubled and that was good. Since, I found out I was pregnant, my bbs have been very sore and I have had slight cramping. Now, I know these symptoms are normal. The thing is, the cramping has subsided with the exception of very faint ones... occaisionally. The bbs are not nearly as sore. I have had no morning sickness or spotting as I have read in some other threads. I have the first u/s scheduled for 7/7. I am nervous after reading all the threads that there is a possibility of a non-viable pregnancy. I know I am getting my panties all in a bundle over worry about all the stuff I have read and heard. How do I not worry so much. Does anyone know the percentage of non-viable pregnancies and is the percentage rate for mis-carriages higher for women over 35? Ladies, I am so nervous! Especially, since my symptoms have almost disappeared. ↑
