Hi,My baby is 8 and half months old and she has been vomitting for a few weeks now.The doctor asked us to get blood work done and the report is back.
Her WBC count is very high 21,000. thedoctor suspects a viral infection and is not sure. She wants to give a correct diagnosis after she looks into the sonogram reports.
Please can someone let me know if they had a similar situation coz when i search for it on the web there are all kinds of crazy things and I'm scared. ↓
I'm sorry for all the worry you must be going through. From what I understand a high white blood cell count just means that the body is reacting to infection...it can range from something simple that just needs antibiotics to treat to something more serious. I'm definetely not saying that it is something serious at all, I'm just saying it could be a LOT of different things. Sounds like a stomach bug to me with all the vomiting, if so they will have to find what the bacteria is thats causing it and then the type of antibiotic that will treat it. My little girl is 7 months and I would be really scared too if she got sick....please keep us informed with what they find out. I hope someone else can give you more information who has actually had this happen to their baby. ↑
Like margie says, the only thing that a high white blood cell count tells you is that it's an infection of some sort. This happens when you have a cold or flu, an infected cut, etc. It doesn't really tell you much about what is making is making your daughter ill, but it does eliminate some things -- it's not a severe allergic reaction for example. ↑
She does not have a fever, cold, flu of any sort and this is worrying me.I shall have all the answers i'm looking for today as I have a doctors visit.
I will keep you all posted.Thanks ↑
Ok.I have been to the doc and according to her my lo has a stomach virus.Thank god its not something major. She hasn't prescribed for any medicaton for now.She wants to wait and see if my baby is improving with no PV....Margie thanks a lot for your prayers....makes me feel better, thinkin there someone out there concerned. ↑
oh thank goodness! i was thinking that with all that vomiting it has to just be something like a bacteria that got in her little tummy that she is trying to get out. ive had stomach virus before and its not very fun at all, but i have not had it for several weeks though, poor thing! i will continue to pray that she gets over the sickness quickly so she can get back to a happy healthy baby again very soon! :-) ↑
When my son was 5 months he came down with a fever over 104.1 whereas we rushed him to the hospital, the dr.'s did blood work and took urine samples and i believe his wbc was in the 40,000's whereas they diagnosed him with a urinary tract infection and gave him antibiotics even before all the blood work was back and i had to give him infant tylenol and motrin around the clock until his fever went away - he had no vomiting though, it may or may not be the same infection ,hope this helps? ↑
