Jump Rope

It wouldn't hurt my baby to jumprope would it? I had this older woman I know tell me I could hurt her, but I don't see how jumping rope is any more dangerous than jogging, which I know is safe. Its the only form of exercise I get, I haven't a safe place to run, I have no gym membership, and I hate aerobics. Normally I would listen to an older woman who has more experience having kids, but she also told me s_x will cause miscarriage and she could tell I am having a boy (not true) among other old wives' tales. Anyone already ask their Dr the same question?

I'm sure it's fine, especially if you've been doing it previous to your pregnancy. I would think it might get uncomfortable when you are further along but if you can do it, then go ahead. At least you're getting exercise!

Ask your doc, but personally I'd find a different exercise to do during pregnancy... if for nothing else, because that seems so high impact & like it'd shake the baby up a bunch. I mean, everyone knows not to shake babies... now just imagine doing that to a fetus. There are plenty of other exercises that get your heart going & keep you in shape without you risking the baby. And so you'll miss jumping rope for a few months of your life. Doesn't seem like a big sacrifice.

Well the difference between shaking a baby and a fetus is that the fetus is extremely well cushioned, whereas a born baby is unprotected and not supported or cushioned. I really don't see how jumping rope is any more dangerous than running or jogging, its not like the impact or force one might experience on a rollercoaster or trampoline. I obviously won't be doing this when Im 8 months, the baby would probably be fine in its fluid filled sack, but the Relaxin I think would make it bad for my joints later in pregnancy when they have softened up a great deal. I just have very few other means of exercise. I'm a swimmer so I'd love to do that but unfortunately its getting chilly now and there are no heated pools I can swim in :( that sucks. I will still ask my Dr anyway thoughm thanks for the advice!
