My doctor says I shouldn't excercise in 1st trimester

My doctor has cautioned me against excercising in the first trimester. However, lately I have been SO hungry all the time, and if I don't eat I start to feel nauseous. I am already 15 pounds heavier than usual because of the fertility drugs I took to get pregnant. I do not want to gain a lot of weight, and it looks like curbing my food intake is not an option for me. Does anyone know of any very low-impact, safe excercises that are good for a riskier pregnancy? I don't want to go against my doctor's advise, but I also don't want to start expanding like a balloon before I even get to the second trimester! ↓

God love your doctor...Now I dont feel guilty for being a slug during the past 12 weeks!! LOL
Seriously, he must feel its not a good idea to do strenous exercise. But Im sure you can talk long walks--did you ask him specifically?
I need to get off my arse too..I feel it expanding as I sit here.
Good luck to you!

Is there a particular reason he says you shouldn't, meaning are you high risk or something?
I have spoken to a certified personal trainer, a nutritionist, and RN and my OBGYN and all of them told me excercise was beneficial for me and just to trust my own body to let me know the limits. I am at the gym 5-6 days a week and I do 45 min of cardio, I even run and do ab workouts. I have been working out everyday for a long time before I got pregnant so maybe doing that much isn't safe, but I don't see why you couldn't get on a stationary bike or an elliptical machine and do some cardio and some light strength training. (unless you are at risk for miscarriage). ↑

I would say the elliptical machine, as long as you are not high risk. I exercised 6 days a week, lifted weights and ran and my midwife said that it is very good for the baby as long as you don't overdo it. Don't do anything that hurts and don't exercise until you are out of breath. Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water. I would check with another doctor before starting to exercise, let him/her know your situaion and see what they say...some doctors are just old school about certain things.... ↑

My doc also cautioned me about exercising in the 1st trimester. I don't mind because I don't have the energy and I just want to sleep all day anyway. I'm waiting to get my energy back when I get to the 2nd trimester, that's what I read and everyone says. However I do work in the medical field and I'm walking and on my feet all day. ↑

I asked my Dr about it. I am a member at Curves for women. By no means am I a weight lifter, work out for 2 hours a day person but what he said was, keep my heart rate around 140 and that would be ok. I have been going to Curves for 3 years so this is not something new that I have started... ↑

There is probaly a good reason your doctor has told you not to exercise. He/she should be the one you ask. ↑

I too have had to use ART to get pg, and my drs also told me to avoid exercise during the first trimester. And I have NO INTENTIONS of going against their recommendations. The way I see it is if I have trusted them to help me achieve this wonderful state I am in, then why would I risk it all just for a few weeks of exercise? Fertility treatments are very time consuming, and emotionally and finacially exhuasting. Why push it? Just kick back, relax, and enjoy the fact that you have this amazing life growing inside of you. There will be time later to get physical. ↑
