Not drinking enough since the switch to cows milk?

Hi ladies! I just made the switch over from formula to cows milk with ds (he will be 12 months in 1 week) and he seems to have had no issues with it. He is pooping regularly, no gas issues, and no fussiness, but the one thing I have noticed is the amount that he is drinking is much less than he did on the formula! On formula he would drink an average of four 6 oz bottles a day and also 3 solid meals a day, but today he only drank his morning bottle and then just 3 oz of another and that is all! He refused to take his nightime bottle. He does still eat his 3 solid meals a day, but I am worried that he is not getting enough milk. I think I read somewhere that they should be consuming 16-24 oz a day?? Is this right? And if he isn't then what should I do about it? He will not use a sippy yet so I cannot offer it to him in any other manner. This has been for the past cpl days. Before this he was drinking the milk fine. I thought maybe teething? But he isn't really all that fussy if it is (not like he usually gets). Aggg, I don't know. Any suggestions??? ↓

I wouldn't worry to much about it. My lo is 16 months old and he drinks 3..... 8oz cups of milk most days but sometimes he drinks way less. As for sippy cups I recommend using the ones with the soft straws. My lo will only drink milk from those. He may be teething. When you notice that he isn't drinking as much increase his other dairy. Give him more yougart and cheese. One container of yougart is equal to one serving of milk. I also give my lo that juice that has calcium in it. Good luck :) ↑

I had the same problem, so I mixed in a little bit of pediasure for the flavoring and the sweetness. She really liked it and then after a few days I started putting in less and less until it was just milk again. This was suggested to my by her pediatrician. Find a flavor he likes and give it a try. ↑

I was watching one of those baby shows with a ped Dr. on it and he said that it is surprising how little whole milk a child actually needs after 1 year old, because they should be getting all their nutrients from their food now. He said about 16 oz is more than enough for a child 1 year and older. I don't know everyone has their own opinions about this, but I think you can just make up for it in other foods, by giving him yogurt and cheese and stuff. Lots of healthy snacks will keep him going through out the day, and give him a sippy cup of milk with all his snacks and meals, then a bottle at night and in the morning. That should help. ↑

Ty ladies. It's funny because last night I was feeding ds and to my amazement there was another tooth that had popped through! So, I guess that was the problem...lol He seems to be taking bottles good today. But I definetly am glad to know that perhaps he doesn't require as much ounces in milk daily if he is eating solids pretty well. It seems like 24 oz is a bit much for him anymore. He always takes a morning bottle and sometimes a nighttime bottle and during the day it's usually a coin toss. I should probably post this as a seperate question, but about how much fluid intake (besides milk) should he be getting a day? I ask because I haven't given him any water yet and I had heard that juice is one of those empty calories that he really doesn't need. How much water should he be getting now?? I know before he got his water from the formula, but now I am unsure how much to give? Thanks. ↑

I'd give him maybe a cup/6-8 oz. a day, especially in the summer when the weather is hot, but I'm sure he's probably getting some water intake from his fruits and veggies too, and the milk. He might like some watered down apple juice as a treat once in awhile after he's gotten the hang of water. My lo loves water and I give her about 4 oz a day of it in a sippy she's, 10.5 mos. now, also I give her about 4 oz of watered down juice in a sippy once in awhile and she loves it when she's really thirsty. ↑
