Potty training and daycare.

Ok, I want to start potty training my 26 month old, but he goes to daycare monday through friday. I want to just buy him briefs and not use pull ups, only for night time. How can we potty train him if he is going to daycare in the mornings? How have you girls done it? Did you have to not take him while you trained him?

I think it really depends on the daycares policy. But, having worked in daycare, I would recommend wokring with him at home instead of putting him right into underwear at daycare. It is really stressful having to clean up a ton of accidents throughout the day. Does he use the potty at all or would this be completely new to him. Maybe buy the plastic underwear that goes over his underpants so he can still feel if he's wet but without the mess. Daycare will help you but teachers have so much else going on that its really hard to help a child who has never potty trained before while dealing with 8 other kids.

I would ask your daycare what their policy is and their technique is. If you think you guys could work together, go for it. They've done it so many times that they may just have some good ideas to make it easier. My daycare charges a deposit ($50) to begin training. At first I was shocked but I realized why. Many times there are false starts (and the child is back in diapers) and the caregiver is yo-yo-ing diapers/underpants/accidents, etc. and with so many kids to keep together and have fun and feed, it can get crazy. So her deposit is to get a commitment to follow through. She says she can train a kid in a week or 2. My son is 2 1/2 and I'm waiting until I feel he is ready and I then I want to see her tricks! LOL. Good luck.

I have a home daycare. We started with the pull ups, and then graduated to the underware. When she could keep her pull up dry for the entire day, I took her to the store and let her pick out big girl underware that we leave at the daycare. She still has accidents here and there, but they are getting less each week. Good luck!

My daycare actually called me at work and asked if it was OK to start potty training my ds- sorry girls!!!! I was totally amazed- they told me to bring himin undrewear only with 6 full changes of clothing for the first week- he started on Monday, and by Friday he was totally trained- seriously. He has probably had a total of 5 or 6 accidents in the last 3 months, so in my opinion, this is the way to go- granted, I wasn't the one doing it day after day, but it really worked for us. BTW- ds is was 2 yrs/5 months when he started.
