I am currently 20 weeks pregnant. I was diagnosed with ADD and I have been taking 20-30 mgs. of Adderall (similar to Ritalin, but with less side effects) for at least 2 years prior to my becoming pregnant. My pregnancy was not planned, so I did not intentionally try to eliminate this medication from lifestlye as it has benefitted me so dramatically. My regular physician along in agreement with my OBGYN have advised me that this is a Class C drug, which falls in line with anti-depressants, and that if it would more detrimental to my health and well-being, to not discontinue taking it as it was originally prescribed. I have been taking the same dosage (20 to 30 mgs. per day). My question, has anyone read or heard about any studies where Adderall in this dosage has cause any harmful effects in an unborn fetus, or caused any longterm negative effects after birth? Any advice would be extremely helpful. Also if any one who has had a prescription during pregnancy let me know how it went.

I typed in adderall & pregnancy on google - and from what I found, I would advise talking to your OB/GYN again. Adderall has been shown to cause problems in pregnant rodents, no studies done in humans (obvious reasons). Your OB/GYN should know the different pros and cons of the med classes & be able to guide you best. Good luck!
