how much does your bf baby eat at a time?

It just seems strange to me. dd eats about 3-4 oz still of expressed milk, she is eating every 2-3 hours usually. i thought babies were supposed to be drinking like 6 oz now...she is 6 months. is that only a guideline for formula?Unless she just drinks more from my boob and not the bottle. i just hear of babies drinking like 8 oz at a really early age so i find it strange! she is gaining about 3 lbs in a couple months though.

They usually are able to get more from the boob than if you were to pump. Thats why many who do a lot of pumping end up trying to get their supply back up. But bm is more "concentrated" than formula so they need less of it. The last bottle my dd took was before I found out I was pregnant, she was just over 8 months, she only drank 5 ounces and was satisfied. I know some bf babies can really guzzle bottles and take a lot in, but supposedly it compares like just over half bm is equal to double the formula so something like 4+ish ounces = 8 ounces formula. Obviously the concentration varies person to person, they say it averages 50-57% fats and I'm sure mine was less as we had troubles gaining weight but plenty of milk.

Yes they get way more from the boob then what your are able to pump. Many women think they are not producing enough because they can only express a very little. My lo is 18 months and still bf. Trust in yourself..relaxing is key to producing lots of milk. As soon as I stopped pumping I seemed to relax and my lo was thriving. All the best to you..I'm sure you're doing great!!

wow thanks, i never would have thought 4 ounces of breastmilk is equal to 8 ounces of formula, but it is great to know now!!

I personally have a 2 1/2 month old and I pump about 6 ounces at a time and if I give it to her in a bottle (had to last week once because she had a urinary tract infection and refused to nurse and was dehydrated) she drinks it without an issue. But every baby is different. She weighs about 13 pounds now.

My DD is 3 months old, and is taking 3.5-5 oz each feeding when I am at work.
