6 Weeks With Empty Sac As Seen During Vaginal Ultrasound

I had posted in here about 3.5 years ago now. After my post I had my second miscarriage, which was incredibly tragic. We decided to stop trying for a baby all together and heal emotionally. Anyway I got pregnant for the final time in Jan/2011. Yay I had a baby girl!!! She is now 7 months old and is in picture perfect health. Just stay positive girls and trust your instincts over what doctors tell you. I never had any complications with this past pregnancy but a friend of mine was pregnant with twins and started to miscarry one of them. The dumb doctor wanted to do a D&C thinking both babies died. Well she went back for a final ultrasound which she demanded and there was a baby with a little blinking heartbeat. He is now almost 5 years old and starting school in the fall. If she hadn't of declined the doctors orders that little boy wouldn't be here today.

Hi Ladies, I know this post was from years ago, but I'm just wondering what some of your outcomes were? I'm really nervous, I'm supposed to be 6 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I had a scan today and they couldn't see anything. They then did an internal scan and saw the sac but no baby. I've been asked to come back at 8 weeks. I'm nervous because I haven't been feeling very sick either. At least if I felt sick I would feel like things are normal. What was the outcome for some of you who just had the sac?

Hi cait87, It can go either way for you. I have heard many stories where women had their dates off and couldn't see anything and they went back a couple of weeks later and saw a baby with a heartbeat. What happened with me wasn't so fortunate. I went for an ultrasound and i had a blighted ovum. The sac grew but no baby ever developed. I had to have a d&csince my body wasn't recognizing I wasn't pregnant. I hope the best for you.

I went in at 5 weeks and 8 weeks and they told me I am pregnant with a blighted ovum. I will be 10 weeks tomorrow and have an appointment with a new doctor in a few days. I am also a angel mom to 2 boys that pa__sed 1 year apart at 4 months old because of doctor neglect. Follow our story & watch for updates Sarah-and-Family.com Facebook.com/TeamPeluso

I'm so glad that others are also in the same boat. I have a retroverted uterus and I heard this kind of thing is normal with retrovert/tilted/tipped uteruses. I went to the hosp yesterday and had my first pre natal at 9 weeks 1 day since my last menstrual cycle(LMC), when I had my ultra sound done, just the normal one, the technician dated my pregnancy only at 6 weeks and 4 days. But my periods have been anywhere from 19-42 days with an average of 34 days, so I'm not that surprised. They also told me that I might miscarry because they didnt see an egg sac or anything other than a gestational sac but also told me that it just might be too early to tell yet, I had blood work to get my hormone levels yesterday and again monday, I hope things all work out. Good luck with your pregnancy and hope all went well [3

I too was told I had a empty gestational sac at what I thought was 6 weeks. The doc prepared me for the worst. My blood levels were great! I was so upset and confused. I waited 5 LONG and awful days and had a second ultrasound at Ultrasound lab. They saw my little baby and a healthy heartbeat. I am only 6 weeks 4 days today. What a difference 5 days makes! Also I don't think the ultrasound machine in doctors offices are as reliable. Keep your faith and DO NOT let the doctors rush you into anything!!! Between 6-9 weeks is when the baby is visable. Not everyone is the same. My thoughts, love and prayers are with you ALL:-)

Melanie, thank you for this post - you have made me feel better when I really need it. I am 6 weeks pregnant, and for 3 days I had very light brown spotting. I had a blood test that came back negative 2 days ago, and I have been referred for a v____al ultrasound on Friday. I am scared and don't know what is going on.

Thank you for your post - it is a lot of comfort to me right now as I wait for my first v____al ultrasound to "find out if my pregnancy is viable" they said. :(

Hi

Hi Melissa, I'm facing the similar issue. Do you have any further updates

I am losing my mind!!! I have 13 yr old twins. And am now "pregnant" again I write "pregnant" because I did test positive. On 10/26 my hcg was 7,911 and as of yesterday it was 23,000. But a vaginal ultrasound showed a sac but no baby! for those #'s a baby should be visible. I was also told my progesterone level is at a 10 and should be higher. I was supposed to get a "viability" sonogram on the 24th of this month but my Dr pushed it up to this Friday! I want to stay hopeful and think that my LMP of 8/23 is way off and I am really early in this pregnancy but I have no idea what to think

Hi, all I have to is stay positive cos at the end of day God has the final say in your life not doctor. Is not every junk the dr tells you that you dwell on. Is very possible you implanted late and in the real sense it might just be too early for you or the  dr to see the baby. Moreover, some dr scan is not very realible. Give yourself next 1-2weeks then go back to a different clinic then you'll be told your baby is doing just fine!

I too, have been told I have a tilted uterus... every time I go in for my OB check ups. Well, I'm supposed to be 8 weeks and 3 days now. I went in for my first u/s on Thursday at 8 weeks, and had a transvaginal u/s. Sadly, all that was there was a dark, empty sac with a little bit of something in the corner... Dr didn't spend much time looking for the baby, just took some pics and told me to come back in two weeks. She ordered labs and my hcg came back 22,000. she called me and told me she wants me to have a formal u/s on Monday (tomorrow). I've been so emotional. This is my third, but my youngest is 14 and I've wanted another baby for over 10 years. I keep reading about all these success stories, but it's so hard to think about that empty screen, just a sac and a little density of something in the corner. She wouldn't even check for a hb. With my other two kids, I had only had abdominal scans. The vaginal ones I don't even think existed then.. They were always able to see my babies on the abdominal scans. I'm wondering if my tilt affected her ability to see the baby?? she didnt try very hard and barely moved the wand at all. I'm just so scared to go back tomorrow and see the same thing.
