Bleeding At 14 Weeks Any Experiences Advice Please

Hi Ladies, I'm hoping someone can provide a little help or comfort for my situation. I am currently 14 weeks pregnant w/ my first pregnancy. 5 days ago (when I was still 13 weeks) I woke up at 5am and was bleeding heavily but no pain or cramps at all. I passed a blood clot the size of a golfball and became hysterical as I was sure that I was miscarrying. We went to the ER immediately. Unfortunately they sent us home and told us that there was nothing they could do until Monday at 8:30 when I could be seen at the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit. Obviously the next 24 hours were the worst of my life. When I was finally given an U/S I was shocked to find that my baby was moving and had a strong heartbeat. The tech told me that I had a low-lying placenta or placenta previa. I spoke to the midwife after the scan and she said that everything else looked good and if it happened again to come back. Two days later (now 14 weeks) the same thing happened again at 4pm. I passed two blood clots and bled heavily for about an hour and once the blood clots were gone I stopped bleeding. I couldn't go to the hospital b/c the Early Pregnancy Unit was closed until the next morning so I just laid in bed. The next day (yesterday) the bleeding had completely stopped again and I decided to lay in bed as I was terrified to move. Today I woke up feeling great and decided to take a slow 2-min walk to the store with my partner to pick up dinner. I made it halfway before I bled again. I'm assuming it was a blood clot b/c my pants were soaked and the bleeding stopped almost immediately afterward. Needless to say I was mortified as my partner saw everything (although he has been great). I am going to the Early Pregnancy Unit first thing tomorrow to get another scan but I'm so afraid that this time my baby won't be moving. I feel like you can only be lucky so many times and I don't think I'll be able to handle the bad news as I want this baby more than anything. I still have had no pain and I know that there's nothing I can do if I 'm going to miscarry but I was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and then gone on to have a healthy pregnancy? Could the placenta previa be causing the clots? I know that it can cause multiple episodes of bleeding but the blood clots are scaring me. Any experiences would be welcome. Thank you for reading and sorry this is so long. Krystal

Just to follow up in case anyone else finds themselves in this situation: I went to the hospital the next day and was amazed to see my baby moving on the ultrasound. He or she was all curled up and by the waving of his arms, I'm a__suming he was also a little aggravated at being probed! lol For those women who experience terrifying bleeding like I did, please don't give up hope. No one ever tells us that bleeding doesn't always mean miscarriage but it doesn't. I had HEAVY bleeding and blood clots on 3 occasions and my baby is doing well. Please if you have any bleeding, try to stay calm and see someone immediately. The number one thing that affected me this week was stress and fear. As far as a diagnosis, all they could tell me what that I had a build up of old blood that had to come out. My cervix is closed, my placenta is already moving back up and the baby is growing right on target. I hope this post helps someone out there. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy pregnancy! K xoxo

Hey Junnipa, Firstly, I'm so sorry you're going thru this. I know how scary it is and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Just to give you some hope, my daughter was born on July 13th. She was 7lbs 8oz and completely healthy. She's 6 months old now and is doing great. I bled FOR WEEKS, 7 to be exact. I was on bed rest and thy never found a cause of the bleeding. Some of the episodes were so heavy that I was sure I'd lost her but here she is. I should point out that I had painless bleeding. Try not to stress. I know firsthand that that's easier said than done but on those days when I really stressed I bled a little more. Follow doctors orders also. Bed rest is very boring and lonely but it's with it in the end. When I would get up and do too much I'd exacerbate the bleeding. Also drink lots of fluids. More than anything stay positive and don't give up hope. Please let me know if I an answer any more questions. Best wishes to you and baby. Xoxo

Hi imadreamer and junippa, i really need your help! I'm 14 weeks 4 days pregnant and I went through the same situation yesterday. I p ed a huge clot at 1:30 am and then everytime I peed it was accompanied with lots of fresh blood. My ultrasound had shown a 3.6 cm blood clot and the doc has only advised one week of bed rest. I stopped bleeding in a day and have been put on hormones. I need your advice on what precautions I need to take, what is the right position to lie down during bed rest.. I'm really scared and not confident about the treatment. Please advice and suggest everything you guys are doing to save the baby!
