Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation

Hi ladies! I will be 30 in Oct and have 2 daughters, 8 & 6, both by c-section. I had a tubal, cut and burn, in Feb of 2001. My husband and I thought 2 was enough but I have wanted another one for a long time. I have always wanted a son but would be happy with whatever God blessed me with. My main concern is this: When I was about 8 weeks pregnant with my second child, I had terrible pains in my right side. My husband rushed to the hospital, both of us thinking that the pregnancy was ectopic. Thank God it was not. The doc told me that I had a cyst, one needed to keep the baby alive, but that it was larger than it should be. They kept an eye on it and it did go down over the course of the pregnancy. When my daughter was about 6 wks old, the pain came back, stronger than ever. They ran test on me and decided that it was my gallbladder and took it out. I have continued to have constant pain in my right side for the past 6 1/2 years, some days more painful than others. I have had docs tell me that it is all in my head, that I was having phantom pains from my gallbladder and so on. Now I am sitting here, 8 days late and desperatly wanting to be pregnant again. I have been having cramps and the "normal" pain in my side but not sure what make of it. I have been late before but I am having other syptoms as well. Has anyone had a similar long lasting pain and what has ever come of it? God Bless to all!

Hi ladies, just to update you from my last posting, I went to my doctor and found out that I had a miscarriage. So I encourage all of you who are having symptoms but with negative hpt results to go to your doctors asap and get checked out. I pray that you all receive the desires or your hearts!

UPDATE - I took a hpt this morning and it was a very clear "no", very dissappointing. I have been nauseated off and on for over a month and very tired. My husband said I should go to the doc, but I think I will give it until Friday to seem if my period starts.

I am sorry for your loss DKT. I was amazed to read so many stories about pregnancy after tubal ligation. I had a TL and now am regretting it. I would now love to get pregnant and pray for it almost daily. Ladies beware rushing into this procedure and if you have had it and are having pregnancy symptoms go to the Dr. even if you have negative home pregnancy tests! An ectopic may not show up, mine didn't!

You do not always have pain with an ectopic pregnancy! There are cases where you won't have any symptoms. If you believe you might be pregnant insist on a blood test. I did not have pain and I had a negative home pregnancy test. I went to the Dr. and was given a blood test and told I was pregnant. I went home all excited, but at my follow-up the numbers had dropped and an ultrasound showed the pregnancy in my tubes. There is a lot in incorrect information going around. Be careful. If an ectopic ruptures it could be fatal. A friend had to have part of her tube removed because she waited to see if her period would start after she took a hpt and it turned up negative. We know our bodies! Don't let Doctors make you think you are being silly or wasting time. They work for us!

I had a tubal done after my last son, and due to the complications during surgery (chest pains) they had to rush surgery, due to that they only cut and tied me, they didn't burn is that normal should I be worried,....mind you I still haven't had my post pregnancy period and my last baby is now 10wks old...thanks mother of 5

I had my tubes tied 15 months ago after the birth of my fourth daughter. However, my period is two weeks late. I took a home pregnancy test and there is the faintest line of a positive result. I'm usually very regular with my periods, but you'd think if I was two weeks late and pregnant that my result would be in your face positive. I don't really feel pregnant, but I won't feel completely at ease until my period finally shows. It's just very frustrating to worry about something I thought I would never have to worry about again.

I had a tubal after my c-section almost 8 mos ago. My period has not returned yet, which is normal for me since we exclusively bf. The thing is that for about the past month I have had nausea, mood swings, and I cannot stay awake. I get up at 8am with the kids to get them ready for school and it takes me until about 2pm to get up and going. I just doze.. I am nervous to buy a test because I would be so disappointed if it is negative (I know that is odd) I guess not testing gives me a little hope as I have regretted my tubal since I had it done. But as I sit here barely able to keep my eyes open, I think I may just test today.

Melissamom, if your period has'nt been back since you had your tube's done, then it might unlikely that you are pregnant, but better to be safe then sorry and do a test. Hope it come's out pos for. I had mine clipped in 2000, and have regreted getting it done ever since. My son was only 10 months old when I had it done, he's now 7 will be 8 in Jan. I've asked my hubby about me getting them reversed but he says no way. If it happens then thats fine but he does'nt won't me to have them reversed. Best of luck, let me know how you go.

Hi Christie: Before you had your tubal ligation, were you informed of all these side effects that is possible after TL? And were you informed of POST TUBAL LIGATION SYNDROME? My point is that I am trying to inform my fellow women out there that what we feel and go through after TL is real and most of the time - it goes undiagnosed - because there is no cure for PTLS and most doctors do not believe that it exists! Are any of you gals out there aware that when our tubes are tied that it cuts off blood supplies to our ovaries? And it also cuts off the signal that our ovaries send to our brains? And once it dies, it stops producing the necessary estrogen and progesterone that our bodies need? This is where early menopause sets in with all the other following complications: Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome (PTLS) aka PTS is linked with: * Castrative Menopause * Severe Hormone Imbalance * Ovarian Isolation (Post Hysterectomy, Post Tubal Ligation) * Atrophic Ovaries * Hormone Shock * Increased Risk of Heart Disease * Bone Loss and Osteoporosis * Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (DUB) * PMS * Endometriosis * Adenomyosis * Severe Pelvic Adhesions * Misplacement of Female Organs * Decreased Lactating Ability SYMPTOMS OF POST TUBAL SYNDROME 1. Eptopic pregnancy or pregnancy (well known risk of tubals) 2. Hot flashes, flushes, night sweats and/or cold flashes, clammy feeling, chills 3. Bouts of rapid heart beat 4. Irritability 5. Mood swings, sudden tears 6. Trouble sleeping through the night (with or without night sweats) 7. Irregular periods; shorter, lighter periods; heavier periods, flooding; phantom periods, shorter cycles, longer cycles 8. Loss of libido (see note) 9. Dry v____a (see note) 10. Itchy v____a-at time raw like, can radiated from whole area, with absence of yeast infections. (see note) 11. Color change in v____al area. (color gets darker -darker red to purple) 12. Crashing fatigue - Chronic Fatigue 13. Anxiety, feeling ill at ease 14. Feelings of dread, apprehension, doom (see note) 15. Difficulty concentrating, disorientation, mental confusion 16. Disturbing memory lapses 17. Incontinence, especially upon sneezing, laughing; urge incontinence (see note) 18. Prolapse of uterus do to rapid decrease in estrogen levels. 19. Itchy, crawly skin (see note) 20. Aching, sore joints, muscles and tendons (see note) 21. Increased tension in muscles 22. Breast tenderness 23. Decrease in b___st ma__s 24. Headache change: increase or decrease 25. Gastrointestinal distress, indigestion, flatulence, gas pain, nausea Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) 26. Sudden bouts of bloat 27. Depression (see note) 28. Exacerbation of existing conditions 29. Allergies developing or increasing - (Chronic sinusitis). 30 Nasal infections-necessitating antibiotics 31. Weight gain (see note) 32. Hair loss or thinning, head, pubic, or whole body; increase in facial hair 33. Dizziness, light-headedness, episodes of loss of balance 34. Changes in body odor 35. Electric shock or stabbing sensation under the skin. (see note) 36. Tingling in the extremities, (see note) 37. Gum problems, increased bleeding 38. Burning tongue, burning roof of mouth, bad taste in mouth, change in breath odor (see notes) 39. Osteoporosis (after several years ) 40. Changes in fingernails: softer, crack or break easier 41. Stabbing pains in pelvic area at time of ovulation 42. Pelvic Pain 43. Development of Adenomyosis 44. Development of Ovarian/Tubal Cysts 45. Decreased Lactation Ability Here is a link to a website that will be very helpful to everyone out there who has ever had a tubal ligation: tubal.org Good luck to you all out there! But you should also consider looking into a reversal (if you can afford it). Most insurance will not cover it, so you have to look for the right doctors to back you up on this!

Shanta - October 12

hi mdawn: have you ever heard of PTLS? you should look into it! It is this dreadful syndrome that we develop after a tubal ligation! Godd luck.

Melissamom24 - October 12

Just wanted to update that I did take a test and it came out positive. I had some bloodwork Thursday and I have more coming up on Monday.

rttj2000 - October 14

Shanta, I have just read what you ahve put up about tubal ligation, I have 21 out of the 45 that you put up. I have regreted getting it done since 2001. Hubby won't let me get it reversed, plus we don't have the money. If I'd known about it before hand I would'nt have had it done. Melissamom, I hope it all goes well for, keep in touch on how things go.Congrats.

Shanta, I have never heard of any of this before. I have learned so much since I have found this site. I wish I have been smart enough to search the web instead of trying to find any easy fix 7 yrs ago. I have had a terrible pain in my left side since I was 2 months pregnant with my last child, she will be 7 yrs old in Feb. Doctors have told me it is all in my head, they removed my gall bladder thinking that was the problem and that I was having phantom pains from having my gall bladder removed. My mother-in-law found an article this week that talked about pelvic congestion syndrome. I have all of the symptoms of it and will be going in a couple of weeks for a full physical. I hope that they can find the problem and fix it. My biggest fear is that the fix will be a hysterectomy, there goes the slightest chance of ever being pregnant again. My husband is sympathetic but has never had a desire to have kids so he can never fully understand how I feel. It is so nice to hear everyone's stories and to know that you are not alone. Will a reversal alleviate these symtoms? Good luck and God Bless to everyone!

MOMMIE416 - November 12

I JUST CAME ACROSS THIS WEBSITE AND FEEL SO MUCH BETTER TO KNOW THAT SO MANY OTHER WOMEN FEEL THE SAME. I AM 35 AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR THAT I HAVE MISSED PERIODS AND I AM CURRENTLY ABOUT 10 DAYS LATE WHICH IS EXTREMELY ABNORMAL FOR ME. WITH READING ALL OF THIS I WILL GO GET A TEST THIS MORNING!!! I HAD A TUBAL 12 YEARS AGO AND COMPLETELY REGRET IT. I DO NOW WANT TO HAVE ANOTHER BABY BUT HAVE SO MUCH TROUBLE TAKING BIRTH CONTROL THAT I REALLY DON'T WANT A FULL REVERSAL AND IVF IS JUST TOO EXPENSIVE. I HAVE READ ALOT OF COMMENTS AND NOW HAVE MANY QUESTIONS FOR MY DOCTOR. I WISH YOU ALL ALOT OF LUCK AND HAS ANYONE HEARD OF A LOW TUBAL OVUM TRANSFER? THIS PROCEDURE IS LIKE IVF WHERE YOUR EGGS ARE STIMULATED AND THEN RETRIEVED BUT THEN THE EGGS ARE JUST PUT BACK INTO THE FALLOPIAN TUBES AT THE LOW OPENING TOWARDS THE UTERUS AND THE COUPLE HAS NORMAL INTERCOURSE TIMED AT A DAY BEFORE THE TRANSFER AND A DAY AFTER TO ACHIEVE PREGNANCY. I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY CLINICS WHO PERFORM THE PROCEDURE BUT I HAVE SEEN LOTS OF INFO ONLINE. JUST TRY PUTTING LOW TUBAL OVUM TRANSFER INTO A SEARCH ENGINE AND SEE WHAT YOU GET. IF ANYONE FINDS OUT ANYTHING OR OTHER THINGS THAT MAY HELP WITH GETTING PREGNANT AFTER A TUBAL, PLEASE POST IT.--(GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL AND I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU ALL)
