The doctor that performed my d & c on Jan. 3rd, 2012 said that we could try again whenever we felt ready but my family doctor advised we wait three months and he put me on birth control for the next three months. Is anyone else here back on birth control also?

I'm so glad I found this site.. I am new to all of this and I didn't know where to go.. We are proud parents of a healthy 2 year old boy, and last July we found out we were pregnant again. We were so excited, but at 5 weeks I had a miscarriage. I was devastated, we both were. Well in early January we found out we were pregnant again.. Super excited, but scared since I has miscarried before. Everything was going great and on February 29 we went in for out 10 week 3 day visit and found out or baby had no heartbeat and had stopped growing at 9 weeks 2 days. I felt awful and helpless. I had been carrying my baby not knowing he/she had pa__sed away. Another devastation. I had a d/c done on March 2, 2012.. I had a good experience regarding the procedure, but I'm still extremely sad for the loss of our baby. I had no signs of a miscarriage at all.. I'm still wondering if after this we will be able to try again and conceive.. I have had 2 losses and don't know if I can take another one. Does anyone out there have a similar situation as I?? Our first child was healthy with a normal pregnancy. How long do we have to wait to try? I know it still to soon since it hasn't even been a week since my d/c.. but we would love to eventually have another child.. Thank you all for your posts.. It gives us hope.

I'm new here too! I too have experienced a m/c and d&c. My d&c was almost 5 weeks ago. This was my 2nd pregnancy. I have a 7 year old. I was supposed to be 9 weeks when I went in for an ultrasound and the baby only measured 7 weeks and 5 days and no heartbeat was present. I had no signs or symptoms of miscarrying. I had a d&c a week later. The procedure was pretty simple. I bled on and off for around 10 days. It was less than a period and not really any cramping. My doctor told me that I could have s_x within a few days and that I should wait for one period to show up and then could try again. I saw my doctor 2 weeks after the procedure and she said everything looked great. She told me that my period should come between 4-6 weeks. I normally have a 26 or 27 day cycle. I started my period on day 31. The first day it wasn't much so I wasn't sure that's what it was but it picked up the next day. It has been a little heavier than my normal periods and more cramping. The waiting for it to come was driving me nuts!! So glad its here and hoping to get pregnant this month! I got pregnant the 3rd month of trying. On the 3rd month we used an ovulation test and got pregnant so hoping it will be that easy again!! My doctor told me that most women go on and never have another m/c again. Has anyone had a similiar experience or success with becoming pregnant soon after a d&c?? Good luck to all those ttc!!

Hi cupcake10 Know exactly how ur feeling as its only been a couple of weeks since my D/C and I am dying to try again. Did ur Doc say anything about you waiting for at least a month, to give ur lining of ur womb time to thicken? I so wanna get pregnant again, but so afraid if i do so tooooo soon, that i will m/c again. :0( What do you reckckon gals, is the lining of ur womb thing just a myth that Docs tell ye, so that you wait for a cycle so easier for them to date next baby? We got pregnant on our first month of trying, and pray to God we are so lucky the next time! Hope ur crampling has eased and ur getting ready to ttc!! :0)x

Hi irishmummy The Dr. who preformed the D and C told me to wait till I had a normal period, likely 2 months. My Dr told me it didn't matter, that I was free to ttc whenever I felt ready. I had read studies also that said there is no increased chance of miscarriage if you get pregnant right after a miscarriage. That being said I ttc right away (though it took over 5 weeks for my bleeding to completely stop so it was about 6 weeks after the D and C that I finally ovulated)about two weeks later I felt pregnant, took a test and it was positive, tested again a couple days after that and it was negative, a day after that I had my period (It lasted over two weeks) so maybe there is something to be said for waiting . . . Maybe it's just a fluke, maybe I had matter left in my uterus from the D and C that came into play "shrugs". Not sure if that helped. Best of luck to you. Joanna

My doctor didn't give me a reason to wait. She just said have one period and then try. I'm gussing so that it is easier to date the next pregnancy but I'm not sure. She never said anything to me about the lining being too thin. We did not prevent pregnancy but weren't really trying the few weeks after the d&c. I have no idea when I ovulated but have started my period 31 days from the d&c so gonna start using an ovulation test in about a week! My doctor said there is no increased risk of a m/c just because you have had one in the past.

By the way....I started taking a pregnancy test every 5 days or so after the d&c so I would know that when I got a negative things would hopefully be on their way to getting back to normal and that way when I am really pregnant again I would know that it was a real positive and not just left over hormones from the m/c. My doctor never did any blood tests to see if my levels were dropping except for the blood they drew at the hospital when I went in for the d&c and I was never told any results. I had read that some people keep getting positives for like 4 weeks. I got a negative a couple days after the 2 week mark!

Hi girls. Glad to see that I'm not the only one going through this. That we can a help and support one another and that we are not alone. Its been only one week since my d/c and I don't have my follow up till this Friday. Hope all goes well and lets see what the doctor recommends me. Hope he gives me the ok to try again, but I think I'm gonna wait a bit. The loss of my baby still hurts and I want to do it when it's right. Good luck girls and I'll keep you guys posted. :)

I have a 13 year old son and was surprised when i got a positive result on jan 3. I didnt think i was going to have anymore and wasnt trying.I was super excited to be preg. On feb 6th i started spotting and went to the doc. She gave me an us and there was no heart beat. On feb 13th i had a d/c. All i can think of is how much i want to be pregnant. I spotted a lil yesterday and im wondering if it can be implantation bleeding. I'm hopeful but im scared to test cuz im scared of a neg result.
