Period After Polyp Removal

Hey girls. I had a uterine polyp removed 2 weeks ago. (I was midcycle... cd15). And my period is due right now (cd30). So far I've had brown spotting for about 4 days and no sign of bright red flow yet. And I'm wondering when the doc removed the polyp could he have taken most of the lining of my uterus with it. Meaning I won't get a regular period this month since most of the lining is already gone. So I am asking all the ladies who have had polyps removed...did you get a normal period that cycle after the surgery??? I would think that I would still get a period because the lining usually builds up in the luteal phase but I don't really know how it would work after surgery. I'm on clomid so my cycles are pretty regular.

Sunshine, I had a uterine fibroid removed last February and my first period was just brown spotting and my doctor had told me that this is probably all it would be. I have always had extremely long and heavy periods, but since the surgery I have light and short periods (although after the first month I did get the red flow back). Before the surgery, my doctor told me that if red blood didn't come back within the next month that I needed to tell her as scar tissue can form on the walls of the uterus and inhibit fertility (and normal periods). hi sunshine...i wrote to you the first time on the problems getting pregnant board. it seems like my spotting is getting red so i guess that is the start of af. i also went to see my RE tonight for a check up and she said yes---i am about to get AF.

Yeah, I thought it would be different people on each board. I usually read this board but I thought I might get a better response from a board where ppl are having problems ttc. Thanks for responding to both. Anyways, AF came with a vengeance like the day after I posted those. It was quite heavier than usual actually which I thought was a bit weird, but hopefully it will taper off and not be as long. But I'm glad I got it though. Now I can start really trying for this coming cycle.

I just wanted to correct you on one thing sunshine just so you know... your uterine lining does NOT build up in your luteal phase. Here is some info: the follicular phase. In the follicular phase, the biochemical and physiological events (secretions of LH, FSH and estrogen) support the growth of the follicle (the cell complex that surrounds and nurtures the egg) in the ovary and build up the lining of the uterus to receive a fertilized egg. At mid-cycle, when the egg is ready, a chemical signal -- a surge of LH and FSH -- tells the ovary to release the egg. This stage is called ovulation, and is the optimum time for fertilization to take place. the luteal phase. In the luteal phase, the remnants of the follicle (corpus luteum) keep secreting estrogen and progesterone to maintain the readiness of the uterus. If the egg is fertilized, then the luteal phase continues throughout pregnancy. If the egg is not fertilized, then the corpus luteum dies, the uterus sheds its lining, menses begins and another menstrual cycle ensues.

Hi, I got 2 cervical polyps removed on 15 May, through laparoscopy, i was spotting for a couple of days, then, i had my menses on 21 May :( it's lasted for 6 days, stopped on 26 May, and i've been spotting for 2 day, my next appointment to see my Ob/gyn is on 8 June. Anybody can tell me if it's normal to have spotting on and off like that after the polyp removal? it just seems very strange to me :(

Hi there!

I too had a polypectomy at the end of January. I had some reddish blood the day of and the day after then it went to light spotting and disappeared. I had a normal period which was on time after that.

Hope that helps.

Thanks

Also, since the surgery my periods are much less painful and heavy! I’m really happy about that because I struggled with debilitating menstrual cycles for years and finally feel “normal” again. Hope that happened for others on here too!
