Diarrhea Before Labor Has It Happened To You

OK TMI ALERT!!!! I had diarrhea last night after about an hour of nausea and cramps. I rarely have these kinds of problems and have not even been nauseas through the entire pregnancy. I am only 36 weeks, so i know it's too early for labor, but I have been reading everywhere that diarrhea can be a sign that you're going to start labor in a day or two! Have any of you who have had a baby already had diarrhea as an early labor sign? How long before starting? Have any of you had diarrhea and then no labor for a while? Gross I know, but I am really hoping to at least get through Thanksgiving, although I'd prefer to hang on even longer than that! Your answers will help me prepare. Thanks.

OMG! You and I were living in parallel universes last night! I'm 37w5d and I was cramping/had stomach upset and had 3 bouts of diarrhea. I was having BH contractions and then what I though were real contractions later on...no such luck. I jumped on the internet and in "What to Expect..." which all said that it's a sign. Oh, please Lord, let it be! Unfortunately, I'm not in labor yet (I think-heehee) but I hope you get some responses from people who've had the same experiences as us and went into labor within a couple days. If I go, I'll let you know....GL!

Oops...let me clarify....I know you said you wanted to go a little longer, and it IS best if you're 36 weeks to hang in there a little longer. I'm just so physically miserable with this pregnancy (and now I have a lovely cold on top of that) that I'm ready to rock and roll!

Well, i do hope for you it was a sign of labor starting, I know how you feel, I want to go into labor and I don't want to, ya'know! I've been preparing and preparing so I feel "ready" - as ready as possible - but at the same time, I'm still a bit early and I had plans for the next two weeks that i really would like to keep! Anyway, I hope I get some responses from people either way, b/c it would be nice to get an idea of how common this is! good luck to you!

Morning ladies. I did have diarrhea before going into labor with Erin, like right before (we're talking hours here), it's your bodies way of cleaning things out before the big push, however don't get your hopes up (or down as it may be), it could be just diarrhea unfortunately.

In early labor I had about 6 bowel movements. Probably within a couple hours. It was not diarrhea, but they were definitely softer than normal. Diarrhea can be a sign of labor. Hope your little one doesn't decide to come out too soon!

I had diarrhea a couple of hrs before my contractions started. I woke up at 4am with menstral-like cramping, had diarrhea, bloody show and then the contractions started 2-3mins apart. My water then broke.

Thanks ladies! Ugh, i hope it was just something I ate. I did have alot of fruit yesterday! Well, I was having contractions this morning - menstral cramps, all that!! But now it weems to have subsided. No bloody show - no waters breaking - so I think maybe it was just diarrhea. But three people today said that i have dropped and potruded since Friday when they last saw me. I haven't gained any weight so it must be that he has really lowered into position now. I have an appointment at 4pm, so we'll see what the doctor says! Thanks again.

I had a couple days of diarrhea back when I was about 28 weeks and nothing came from it. Must have just been a bug. I'm 34 week along now.

I forgot to mention.....diarrhea can be very dehydrating, which can cause contractions, so keep yourself well hydrated or you might end up in labor anyway, and not in a very healthy state for labor.

Thanks! I guess it was something I ate, becasue I am not in labor, and not having diarrhea anymore! Both are good things, I have been feeling better and since I am only 36 weeks, 2days, I am not quite ready to have this baby yet anyway! MEGS - if you should pop back on, I will stop over and say hi to you all from home, i cannot access piczo or many other sites from work anymore!

Hi ladies I know this is a few years after the fact but i wanted to add my story :) My due date was Dec 13, 2010 but my dr was going to go ahead and induce me on the 12th at 6am. The night before i took my bath and shaved all places i needed to ;) and laid down to sleep and that is when i started having back pains. I had a few ppl tell me i was in labor so i went ahead and went up to the hosp at 9:30pm on the 11th. I walked in the doors and started down the halls to the elevator to go up to labor and delivery when all of a sudden i had to go to the bathroom and in a hurry. The thoughts in my head were omg i spent all that time to be clean down there and now i had diarrhea so i tried to clean as so as possible. I went to the room where they check to see if you are ready to go int a room and the lady asked me " Did you have diarrhea? " OMG I WAS SO EMBARRASSED. LOL This is how i came along this conversation. I decided to look it up and see how often it happens
