My mom did all her births that way (and even dental work once!) She found it very effective. I've learned some basic meditation techniques for reducing some chronic pain I have. I think it's great, but I'm not so confident in my abilities that I want to go into labor with just that. I'll probably try to combine the meditation with the meds. Anyway the techniques I've learned mostly have to do with observing my pain as a neutral sensory experience - really dissassociating my emotions from it. It doesn't feel good, or bad, it just feels burny and that's it. My best advice is just to practice as much as possible before your labor on any pain or discomfort you are feeling, so it will be easier when it comes time. good luck

I have been reading the book and practicing with the relaxation cd's for hypnobirthing. Hoping somebody out there has already tried it to give me some pointers. Success or failure either way, I'm not doing meds.
