Hey everyone - so we are new to these adoption boards - new to adoption online actually, just started building our website to introduce our family to prospective birth moms etc.
So I'm looking for some advice about how we can help "promote" ourselves, other sites like this we could check out, etc.
And then there's this: How do you know weather or not a perspective birth mom is actually a birth mom via email or if it is a scam?? We recently received an email from a woman saying she had an already born baby that she was looking to adopt out. The email seemed to be in broken english - as if it was was typed in another language then put into an online translator or I'm just being overly cynical because I am so scared of getting burned? Here are some of the question that were asked in the email:
How soon do you intend taking this child?
What kind of accommodation can you provide for the child?
are you familiar with children
Where are you located?
are you married ?
Do you have a phone number where i can reach you?
What is your home address?
Have you ever been convicted?
Have you attempted adopting children before?
Were you successful?
Are you going to use her for re- adoption or some kind of games?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you!

I'm also trying to adopt. My belief is that most of the posts that you see here (and generally speaking in the internet) are scams. Don't get your expectations too high, it is possible to connect with a pregnant woman who wishes to place this way but it is not common. Be cautious. If you are working with an agency, share all the correspondence with your advisor / counselor, they have experience and they can tell when the woman is for real. It is better to advertise locally, you can meet the woman and a__sess the situation first hand. Just my two cents. Good luck!
