Hi:
I'm 8 months pregnant. My husband recently got a gud job offer from another company. This would mean switching frm aetna to united healthcare. Is this possible ? are there any complications ? is it safe for him to switch jobs b4 delivery ?
thanks in advance,
Joan.

I had united healthcare and now i have aetna.Aetna had way more doctors in my area than unitedhealthcare. The 1st thing is you have to make sure your ob takes united healthcare or you will have to switch.Tell your hubby to talk to HR at his new job because insurance doesnt normally kic in until 60days.Goodluck

From what I have heard pregnancy is no longer concidered a "pre-exisiting" condition. So his new insurance should cover you. As M said usually it takes 60-90 days for new insurance to kick in. BUT his current insurance may last 60 days past him quitting you need to talk to your current ins company about this. My husbands insurance will continue for 60 days if he were to quit. You kind of pay into it before it actually kicks in. So call Aetna and ask them. But once his new insurance kicks in you should be okay. I would talk to United also though.

if your husband has had insurnance consesutively for 18 months you can continue your old insurance under the HIPP laws, you will have to pay the premiums and choose to elect only your self and not your husband so it wont be as much, your husbands employer should of provided with with this kind of information when he separated from the company. I would see if you got paper work and did not relize you have it or see if the HR benifits director at his old job can help you. there are laws that allow you to continue insurance coverage, i had the same thing happen to me and I elected to have my old insurance until my husbans insurance kicks in in jan-06
