I'll propably have no choice but to only take 4 weeks off for Maternity leave. Do you think that taking a short period of time makes you a bad mother, or harder for the baby???? I just feel terrible for not being able to take a longer time like i would want.(but theres no other choice)

when i had my first baby i went back to work when he was just 6 weeks old. it was hard for me, but i knew he was being loved and well cared for by my mother. as long as you know baby is safe and getting lots of attention there is no reason to feel guilty. my son still wanted his mama when ever i was home with him. but he also loved being with grandma and grandpa. the more people your baby has in his life the better. love goes a long way.

I agree with Maleficent. I went back to work when my first was 6 weeks old and she was fine.

Where do you live? In the US, you have 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave. I think it is worth it to try to stay out a little longer if at all possible.
If you just can't, it doesn't make you a bad mother -- you are just doing what you have to do to support your family. But maybe look into other options while you can?

Most doctors won't release you for work until 6 weeks for v____al delivery or 8 weeks for c/s delivery. You probably won't be able to go back to work without a doctor's release. Your employer could get in trouble for letting you come back without that release.
