I work with 4 chimneys. Out of 7 employees, they're a bit overpowering in scent to those of us that don't smoke in a small office. I am 15 weeks and another girl in the office just found out that she's pregnant (non-smoker). The smokers use up to 3 hours of the work day (not including lunch) to go outside and smoke, while the other 3 of us sit inside, holed up and p___sed off that we continue working during this time. I really think that pregnant women & non-smokers deserve the same amount of time to dawdle without ruining our lungs. I guess I'm not really looking for advice, just wanted to vent! Anyone else have to deal with c__p like this?

I used to smoke and I have to agree with you. When your a non smoker, you can't just go outside for 5 minutes every hour to stand there and get "fresh air" so why is it all right for the "smokers" to go out and pollute peoples lungs every hour. It almost seems like a benefit to smoke just so you can go out on a break. Then when they come in they reak almost to the point it makes you want to gag!! (especially whenyour pregnant in the early stages). I'm quite lucky none of my co-workers smoke but....DAMN!!!!! One of them eats onions at lunch everyday and her breath could knock a building over, so I can see your point....especially being an ex-smoker

SR, you should do what we did at our office. We noted the time they left for their smoke break, then when they returned we loudly announced we were taking our "non smoke smoke break" and left for the EXACT same time. Eventually management stepped in and asked why we felt authorized to take the time, and since we had noted the smoker's times, we could honestly say we needed to take the time to get away from the smoke on their bodies, and ONLY took the time they took to smoke. Our office then enforced a 15min rule for the smokers every 2 hours, and we were allowed the same time. We did it without judgement, or dirty looks, or snide remarks - just really matter-of-fact, and nobody was offended.

that is really cool. I get p__sed off about that too, but now I am noticing employment adds for non smokers--maybe this is why. I imagine you don't really have to be a non smoker--more of don't ask, don't tell situation--just to prevent "smoke breaks". Man I know people who go on smoke breaks until lunch while I am busting my rump!

I work in an office with only 5 people and only 1 smoker. Whenever it gets busy or hectic, the smoker announces that she need a "BREAK"!! The phone doesn't stop ringing, and people don't stop coming in, but because she is a bit pressured, she takes off. Damn, it really gets to me because the rest of us are working just as hard. It absolutely KILLS me!!! Thanks for letting me vent!!!
