Dealing With Maternity Leave

Ok. I have a good job. I don't make very good money, but I have excellent bennifits. The thing is that I am working about 50 hours a week now and do not wish to do so after baby is born. Not only that I JUST found out that for my "maternity leave" I only get 4 weeks off, not paid of course. I thought I got up to 12. I will need a c section and will take at least 4 weeks just to recover from that. Plus I"m having issues dealing with taking a 4 week old baby and putting him in daycare for 10 hours per day. I am thinking of quitting when the baby is born but am having doubts. What about health care and day care and finding a job that can support us but not have to work 50 hours per week. Just stressing about this. Any advice?

Jill you should find out if your company has what is called a Family Medical Leave Act, which is 12 weeks unpaid leave but provides some type of job security. Also you can try and combine that with sick or vacation time and maybe u should use that first.

You are only elegible for FMLA, 12weeks leave, if you work for a company that has at least 50 employees. However, for a c-section, no matter what benefits your employer offers, you will need 8 weeks off. Your doctor most likely won't release you to go back to work until then. Your employer cannot let you come back without a doctor's release. Talk to your doctor now and see when he usually releases people after c-sections. Even if he releases you at 6 weeks, that's better than 4 weeks.
