Has anyone done any on-line classes to become a mediacal transcripionist so they could stay home with their baby and did it pan out for you? I have heard good things and bad things and I'm not sure if you can actually make money doing this or not.

It pays well if you can find a clinic/hospital that will hire at home transcriptionists. I took the one year course at a tech college and worked at Mayo for a bit and then quit because of the commute. I now work for law enforcement and on the side I do transcripts for another police dept doing statements and it pays pretty good for working out of the house. If you're a good typist, try contacting your local PD or Sheriff's Dept for transcription services. I like the extra money on the side.

You may also want to put flyers up in your local courthouse - you can get great work transcribing for attorneys, esp. if you're available after 5.
