Why Am I Paying For Something I Made

HELLO? does this not bother you? I MADE this cord and If I want it than I should get it! Its like charging you for your finger or something! I'll just store it in my freezer if they are gonna be so damn greedy! Pigs!

I agree with you desiree! Why can't we just freeze it ourself? I hate it because we can't afford the money it takes to purchase the banking and don't any CC to do the payment plan and it makes me feel almost sick to my stomach that it could be so beneficial to our baby (and even our first born) and yet aren't getting it because we can't afford it. I just learned about this a few months ago, "heard" about it a while ago, but never knew anything about it. Now, it's too late to try to come up with the money! I wish it was tax season! BITES!

I know! Im only 20 and me and my hubby and I cant afford this! grrr your own stuff should NOT be a luxury! grrr. Everyones here is talking about great this is and no one is the least bit disturbed at the cost. Even the people who can comfortably afford it should realize how outrageous this is. The companies charge what they want because they realize they have a captive audience and they are using our natural mothering instinct against us! and those who cant afford it are just SOL!

Except your finger doesn't have stem cells that could be used to save lives. Much like we might buy storage space, we pay to store the cord blood. Look into donating. Or payment plans where you can pay $40 a month (US dollars) which isn't very much. Companies will work with you should you want to bank privately and will help you come up with a payment plan.

"Except your finger doesn't have stem cells that could be used to save lives. Much like we might buy storage space, we pay to store the cord blood." My comparison was based on the fact that it is mine. And they have huge storage garages that cost less. they are charging more because they CHOOSE to charge you that much, not because it is necissary. They are preying off of maternal fear, and Ive been reading that there is only a 0.04 chance that you will even need it!

Not that I want to get into a debate. There are circ_mstances where you would want to bank versus donate. If your baby will be biracial. If you have a family history of leukemia, sickle cell anemia, stem cell disorders. But if you don't want to bank, then certainly donate.

Kel - July 29

Hi Beth, i hope you still come around here or someone else is able to answer, but why is it more important to bank if your child is biracial?

CLM - August 1

My ob/gyn and the sonographer told me donation could cost. Be careful if you decide to donate.

CLM - August 1

By cost, I mean cost *you*. I don't know why it would, but they've both warned me. The sonographer told me that twice, different days. Just be careful.

Beth - August 1

Hi Kel, My OB explained that if your baby is biracial, finding it an exact match in a public bank could be close to impossible should you need it. So she recommended banking in that case. The public banks are simply not built enough to have all types of samples. I hope that helps!

That is a pretty funny thought! Anyway, we don't have the equiptment at home and we are paying for that...I am thinking kind of like a valut at a bank.

As part of my studies I've been working in a lab freezing cells last summer. They are stored in liquid nitrogen... an ordinary freezer wouldn't work, it's 190 degrees too warm. But I still think it's too expensive.

can i just ask y you need cord blood i have never heard of this beofre ? thanks

Chrissythefairy - April 3

i read some places if you donate and you need it if it hasnt been donated already you should be able to get it back. But i do think that it is WAY to exspensive to bank the cord blood i really dont have the money.
