I have talked to quite a few docs about it ...including ob/gyn, oncologists and general physicians !! The consesus seems that at this point they dont know if it is worth while to store cord blood....esp since we dont even know how usable the cells will be in 5-10-20 yrs !! I have opted against it ...after talking to all these docs...they all seem to think - its a money making tactic !

I banked my baby's cord blood with Viacord. It's overwelming because there are so many of these companies out there! I looked around at a lot of them and decided on Viacord in the end because of all the research they're involved in and they're so nice! Good luck!

This is so interesting, you can have the cord blood stored? By private companies? I'm in Canada and my only option was to donate my baby's cord blood. My husband wasn't okay with a stranger having this so we opted not to.

Hi Beth! I banked my baby's cord blood with Viacord also. They were so nice on the phone and took care of everything for me. I know it's overwelming because there are so many companies out there, just take time to look around for the right one for you. Good luck!

I banked with Viacord. Banking right now in my opinion is more about the future uses, since no one can predict the future I and seeing how many diseases they can work with already I chose to bank. When I banked I found this site helpful, www.viacordmommy.com it had a coupon for $250.

I donated the cord blood. There is so much good that can be done with it and chances are my child would not need it anyway. Companies are capitalizing on parents fears.

I donated my daughter's cord blood at birth to Cryrobank International (I think) out of Florida........it was supposed to go to research for Parkinson's Disease or to donate for another child/individual who needed a transplant. No major issue during the birthing process -- just after it was cut, the doctor and my husband rushed to get it into the special box they sent me to collect the cord, and it was rushed by Fed Ex immediately. Maybe an additional 15 minutes of time on the part of your doctor to collect, seal, and send -- then he finished sewing me up. Ill do it again in a heartbeat with my 2nd if/when I get pregnant -- hopefully soon.
