I read that we should avoid deli meats but I am finding it hard to eat a healthy lunch with working full time. I eat lots of salads but I love to go to Subway and different sub shops too. Does anyone know if Subway meats are okay?

It icludes Subway meats too. I usually try to make extra dinner every night & then bring leftovers. Or I make egg salad or something like that.

you can have deli meats, but you must heat them up in the microwave to kill of any bacteria. i think it's mostly processed meat too, but just to be safe any deli meat should be heated.

deli meats are not ok, even if you heat them up. they are on the list of foods you shouldn't eat, especially in the third trimester when your immune system is compromised.

Jamie Marie, my dr said deli meats are fine to eat as long as they are heated up some way. You don't want to eat deli meat that are cold. Ask your dr too.....

Subway meat is deli meat....I wasn't told it was bad by the dr however I read too that it's bad. Another lady that works in the same area that I do in the shopping center is preg too. Her dr told her deli meat was a NO NO but didn't tell her why. So I was left to telling her. This is her second kid. her first is 10 yrs old and she said she ate it while preg with him and He is perfectly healthy!!

I know one mentioned egg salad or something like that for sandwiches, but I have read that you should try to stay away from mayo as it contains raw eggs.....I would say moderation in the key with any food.

I read deli meat is okay as long as you heat it too. You probably want to limit it because it's not the healthiest food anyway. Unless it's lean turkey. I think it's high in sodium too.

the reason to avoid deli meat if it is not heated up is because of the risk of listeria, which you do not want to get when you are pregnant. And as far as I know mayo does not contain eggs that are not made safe because it doesn't carry any warnings on the package.

I finally talked to my doctor and he told me that Deli meats are fine. He said that the packaged meats from the store are the ones to avoid as they contain perservatives and other harmful things. He said that Subway is fine and it is much better to eat a sub sandwich than fastfood cheesburger!

I would be careful with deli meat as sometimes it does carry the risk of listeria. Perhaps your dr hasn't heard of this. But the risk is probably pretty low anyway.
