Confused Eater - November 28

Is there an exact list that I can have that we are supposed to eat and what we are not supposed to eat because I am really confused and I am not getting exact answers?

eat healthy, and in moderation. go to absolutely any pregnancy website and it will break down the fruits/veggies, grains, protein, dairy you should have everyday when pregnant. Its not hard...use common sense.

Actually her question is not totally answered using common sense. You are not supposed to eat tuna more than once per week, you are not supposed to eat deli lunch meats due to the possibility of getting listeria, and you are not supposed to eat hot dogs. There are other things that you should not eat as well, but at the moment, I can't think of them. Make sure that you are eating only about 200 calories more per day than when you were not pregnant so you do not gain a ton of weight.

Hi Confused! Its also a good idea to stay away from seafood I have heard. Because of the high Mercury content, it can be dangerous. Stay away from soft cheeses such as brie, and anything that is not pastuerized(sp)..but cream cheese is ok:) Hope this helps a bit.

Ok, just a little correction here.......you can have deli meats as long as they are steaming hot. You have to microwave your meat until it's hot in order to get rid of the listeria. Listeria is a bad bacteria that's not good for the baby. You can also have seafood in moderation. You can have shellfish, such as lobster, crab, and I think there is one more. Lobster & crab contain iodine which is really good for the development of the baby's brain. You can also have tuna once a week as well (one six ounce) Me personally, I don't eat tuna, but in moderation I have lobster, crab meat. You can also have hot dogs (again in moderation) if they are heated and cooked at a very high temperature. And mostly everything in the US is pasteurized so you shouldn't have to worry about that. If your unsure just ask your dr, but most milk, cheese, and dairy products are fine. Like Bobbi mentioned you want to stay away from the soft cheeses. I believe they contain an egg yolk that isn't cooked or some sort of bacteria that's not safe for the baby. Don't scare yourself with everything you hear, because that's exactly what I did, and I avoided a lot of food that was fine to eat. You can also ask your dr for a list of "safe" foods to eat. Good luck!

you're also supposed to avoid coleslaw and anything else made w/ homemade mayonaise as well. store brought mayo is fine though b/c of pasturized eggs.

Choc bars & Pop - December 12

Just eat but keep a good variety of all food groups going and if you're unsure go with prenatal vitamins and remember Folic acid is Key for the baby.
