Whilst pregnant do I need to avoid all nuts or just peanuts. I love cashew nuts and would like to continue with that one vice if possible!!

You can eat all nuts and please don't think you need to give up peanuts. It is only recommended if you have a history of food allergies in your family. I don't and am eating peanuts all the time. Yummy and good source of protein. All nuts are good although some are higher in fat content (like cashews) so don't get too excited about eating a whole bag a sitting...lol...

The protein in a peanut (legume) is far more allergenic than the proteins in nuts. They are not the same and don't require the same caution if you have a history of allergies, of any type, not just food allergies. I am a former allergy/asthma researcher (UW-Madison) and have attended a few meetings/presentations regarding this topic.

I also eat all kinds of nuts, peanuts included..since I have no personal nor family history of allergies. If I was allergic,it would a different story. I guess too much allergen -avoidance for otherwise healthy mom to be might be no good. I am M.D.
