What should I be eating to ensure minimal weight gain and a healthy pregnancy? Unfortunately lots of JUNK type food has been appealing to me. What can I do to calm these cravings? I eat 3 decent meals a day but for snacks what are you all eating? I am in the 1st trimester( 4 wks 3 days pg) Hungry ALL the time like every 3 hrs

A well balanced pregnancy diet is essential. Do not eliminate anything because you think that you may gain weight. You are and will. My midwife told me that once my monring sickness has pa__sed, have balanced meals with proteins, carbs and fats. Doesn't mean that you eat breads and pastas, but veggies such as green peas have excellent sources of carbs. It is important to have your "breads" carbs- I eat wheat free and limit myself to 2 servings of bread a day. I eat Bran and Oats quite a bit- well I do when I can eat. Junk food cravings can get you. Instead try some gooey bread with jam or other healthy alternatives. But you know, if the craving stays you might have to indulge this time. Just watch that it is not everyday to get into bad habits. Snacks try fruits or veggies as carrot sticks. Just a thought. It is good to eat every 3 hours anyway to keep your metabolism up. A lot of people find it hard to eat every 3 hours and stick with smaller meals becaus they think they will gain weight. It is actually better for you to eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day instead of 3 big ones. Also, with morning sickness it is a good idea to eat small meals to help ease the nausea. I hope my input has helped. Have a healthy pregnancy!

Stephanie, thanks for the posting. Here is an example of what I eat. Today: bowl of Special K with lowfat milk, yoplait light smoothie, sesame chicken lean cuisine, mini bagel with pb&j on it, and I will have a cheese sandwich on honey wheat bread with light mayo in a bit. I also have a 100 cal pack of snack crackers I brought with me to work. Dinner is late when I get home from work and includes chicken and rice and salad with regular fat salad dressing. I eat at 11 pm when I get home from work and go to bed around midnight. I used to do just fine on that schedule but Im afraid now eating at night that late even tho it is healthy might make me gain a lot.
