They say on your left side fetal position with a pillow between your knees and a pillow at your back to help support your joints and bones. However I broke my left collar bones about 8 years ago and have pain if I stay laying on my left side for too long. So I primarily lay on my right side and alternate a lot during the night

I have been sleeping on both sides I am aware that the left side is a better choice for blood supply but, I start getting cramps if I stay in one position to long, I often wake up on my back. I guess at the end of the day the mother neads to get a good night sleep so I am not to worried at the moment.

just wondering, for those having trouble with being comfortable on their side what type of pillow you are using? i personally find firm pillow to be the most comfortable for between my legs.

tinka, i still lay on my stomache at 24 weeks. the only thing that stops someone from laying on their stomache is the discomfort. baby won't be squished.

i sleep in an almost sitting position.. backaches and sidaches be gone.. i'm 27 weeks pregnant and found that this is the most comfortable way to sleep. it takes a little getting used to but three pillows on an incline for my back (so it covers entire back) and one for under my knees and i knock right out until morning :)

Ana, my babies head is on my right side and I noticed that when I try and sleep on that side she becomes active. Not sure if she is telling me to roll over i am smooshing her or what, but it's hard to sleep when she is punching me so I just usually stick to my left side. Sleeping on my sides is just not comfortable either way.

I'm only 12 weeks PG now, but the last time I was PG (1995) I would start having contractions every time I would roll over on my back. It started when I was about 20 weeks and they were strong enough to wake me up. Pillows behind me didn't work because I just shoved them out of the way. I had to place a rolled towell behind my back. It was uncomfortable enough to wake me up and I'd roll back over on my side. Not ideal, but at least the contractions stopped.

Just to follow up, I asked my doctor about sleeping positions, and he said that our bodies are designed to change position subcontiously when we are sleeping to keep blood flowing healthily through the body. He said that if the blood is not flowing well, I will automatically change positions, so not to keep myself up over it. He said there is no risk for a normal pregnancy to sleep on the back. I hope you all are sleeping better!
