Well, good luck cutting down. I really hope you can for your baby's sake. And please eat b4 the coffee so at least your baby is fed while it stays awake. Honestly, please try to wean yourself. I know it must be very difficult as I am a former coffee drinker but it is so important.

Hey! I am a pregnant mom who is trying to cut out caffeine all together. I have gotten it down to about 2 drinks of a coke a day. Its really hard with the headachs and all but I have heard and my doctor told me that they are doing studies on children with ADD and such that if the parent drank caffeine it could be a leading cause of ADD. I hope that made sense. Its harder to let you know what is on my mind when tryping rather than talking. Thanks! Steph

http://www.sleepfoundation.org/caffeine.cfm
Go to this site and click on "caffeine calculator" It tally's all of your daily intake of caffeine and gives you the amounts in milligrams. To give you an idea:
AT HOME:
Diet Coke has 31mg reg Coke has 28
an 8oz regular coffee has 100mg
1 oz of milk chocolate has 6mg (there is usually 2.2oz in one reg. chocolate bar which is just over 13mg of caffeine)
8 oz of chocolate milk has 5mg
AT STARBUCKS:
a Short coffee has 250mg
a Tall coffee has 375mg
a Grande coffee has 550mg
I think that it's safe to say that chocolate has very little caffeine next to actual coffee, especially since one chocolate bar in a day would be plenty for most people while that same person may want two or more cups of coffee.
The site (based on sleep problems) states that 250mg is harmless for the average person but, we're not average and we need to consume less. Having a coke an a chocolate bar in the span of the day doesn't even equal half of one 8oz cup of coffee! Although, those treats are full of sugar!

I have done in depth research and they say caffeine in small amounts can be fine (actually beneficial) - much better than trying to subst_tute with other drinks that carry much more damaging chemical (e.g. decaf!). You're absolutely fine - if you stick with 2 cups or less a day.

please everybody - think of your babies and not just about yourself... read the "i want to do you something good" post in "diet and pregnancy". just read it, you don't have to do it but please, be aware that you can either drink something bad or drink something good instead! sounds like a deal, no?

Maybe one cup of coffee in the AM is OK during pregnancy but the more we start with "one more cup should be ok" we are becoming more selfish then anything. Remember, decaf coffee tastes the same and if you drink soda try caffine free rootbeer or orange slice! Good luck!

With my first pregnancy, i did everything that my doctor said i should do. I didnt want anything to happen to the baby. I used to drink coffee every morning until i discovered that I was pregnant. After i quit drinking coffee, I kept having headaches and was always irritible. It wasnt long that i switched to the decaffeinated coffee. I couldnt really tell the difference. Its better then not having coffee at all to me.

no i dont think so i think you should just cut it to one cup a day. Instant coffee contains and average of 104ml of caffine per cup. just be careful.

I read somwhere on a post (sorry, I can't remember where) that chai tea was a great "treat" for pregnancy. I a__sumed it doesn't have caffeine, but after trying to find more about it, I'm not sure, and I'm not having any luck finding if it is caffeinated or not. ? Anyone know? I sure hope not because I started drinking it , and love it. :)

http://www.principalhealthnews.com/topic/3955 This website is the best I have found that reinforces what doctors have told me. Moderation is key to everything you do during pregnancy.
