Is rooibos tea safe to drink during pregnancy and br___tfeeding?

kashi - January 23

yes...other ecommended teas are Raspberry Leaf, Nettle, Alfalfa, Oatstraw, Dandelion Root and Leaf, Red Clover, Rose Hips, Chamomile, Pa__sionflower

Jeanette - March 4

I have a book that says Pa__sion flower may be harmful!

kashi - March 5

no, pa__sion flower is ok. it is a gentle and safe sedative, great for insomnia, especially when one can't fall back to sleep in the middle of the night. Make a strong tea before bed, drink some and leave the rest on your bedside to sip if you awake.

Regarding kashi's reply, rasperry leaf is NOT necessarily safe until towards the end of the pregnancy. This link has more info: http://www.birth.com.au/cla__s.asp?cla__s=67&page=25

Today's Parent - Winter 2004, pg22... Paraphrasing... Health Canada says that Chamomile Tea is unsafe during pregnancy as it may have harmful effects on the uterus. The jury is still out on Raspberry Leaf tea... Tea's that are safe to consume, providing you drink only 2-3 cups per day are... ginger, lemon balm, orange peel, rosehip, citrus peel and linden flower (not recommended for those with heart conditions)

just drink water. everyone will tell you this or that is bad when you are pregnant. or make your own decision and don't ask anyone but a physician's opinion

Does anyone know if it's safe to drink green tea during pregnancy?

tami - September 8

I have heard that green tea is unsafe during pregnancy because it may cause spina bifida in the fetus.

to tami - September 8

doesn't cause it, it is suggested that it may block folate absorbtion. folate deficiencies are what lead to neural tube defects such as spina bifida.
