i'm confused. what are pregnant women supposed to be eating? i am very pet_te, and i an almost 23 weeks. i force myself to eat all this food every day because i don't have a big appet_te. i don't know what i need "for the baby" and if i followed my own appet_te, i would eat once a day and be happy. this a sample of what i force feed myself daily: breakfast: instant oatmeal, milk, strawberries, eggs snack: cheddar cheese slices, peach lunch: cottage cheese, pineapple chunks dinner: pot roast w/ vegetables and rice, O.J *water intake: 4-5 24oz. bottles a day is there something i am missing? i have barely gained more than 7 lbs so far, and i see a lot of folks here on these extreme organic diets and stuff. what do pregnant women supposed to eat?

Hi Gina, I saw your post...I also visit the website americanpregnancy.org and found this regarding your food intake...good luck. Trish According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), pregnant women should increase their usual servings of a variety of foods from four basic food groups to include the following: Four or more servings of fruits and vegetables Six to eleven servings of whole-grain or enriched bread and cereal for energy Four or more servings of milk and milk products for calcium Three or more servings of meat, poultry, fish, eggs, nuts, dried beans, and peas for protein

no one can possibly consume all that food. at least not every day. that's wild. oh well, guess i fail this too.

it sounds like a lot, i know, i was also baffled when i first got pregnant. but it's not all that bad when you think of it in the way that very small amounts of foods cover your recommended daily intake. i can't remember specifics, but something like a quarter cup of one type of fruit would equal one fruit serving, so that's really not too bad. i think the key is a wide variety every day, lots of small servings, and enjoying what you like in moderation. don't deny yourself what you like, just don't go overboard. the trick is to find a balance, and let your common sense lead the way.
