Why Not Take Fiber Supplements

Amy - November 15

I am 11 weeks pregnant and very constipated. Prior to discovering I was pregnant I regularly took a fiber supplement 3 times a day. This was necessary because I have cronic candida overgrowth and food sensitivities. I can't eat cereal, breads, or many fruits without breaking out, having inflamed joints, and getting yeast infections. I don't understand why colace, a stool softener is the only thing I can take to assist with constipation. Isn't the fiber I was taking just the same as eating it? Any suggestions beyond eating a lb of Kale a day would be great. (Don't get me wrong Kale is great for me and for the fetus...but I'd like to have some other answers too)

Amy - you can take fiber supplements like psyllium. It is just fiber. However, you need to check the ingredients and make sure there is nothing else in the pill like senna (bad and you need to avoid that). My doctor told my psyllium was fine.. and it works well for me. I also found a link online about it too..http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdrugprofiles/herbaldrugs/102270.shtml Hope that helps!!
