Jessica, My daughter is 20 wks pregnant and she is also suffering from rib pain on the right side and even on the right side of her back in the same spot. We have been told that physical therapy and ma__sage may help. It is reportedly beause the prolactin and moving organs have caused a rib cage to be out of place and it needs to be moved back. Ma__sage and water therapy is reportedly beneficial. Hope this helps.

I am 20 wks pregnant as well and have the same pain in my rib and my back on my right side. I have been wearing a Thermacare pad for 8 hours a day. My doctor told me to take a Tylenol as well but I haven't done that. I went for a ma__sage today for my back but it didn't seem to help that much. Hope this is useful to you. :)

I am having the same problem! It's only on my right side and it's way past the point of discomfort. It literally will take my breath away and I have to sit down. It's a stabbing pain that lasts all day and all night. I get no relief! My fiance is a physical therapist and he has some stuff called Biofreeze that might help. Has anyone used this?

I am 38 weeks pregnant with 5th child and my rib pain is almost unbearable now. At 34 week I went to a chiropractor in my area and it helpd a great deal for about 3 weeks. I will go back again this next week. Just make sure your chiropractor is used to dealing with pregnant women.

I am so glad im not alone! My right rib and the same place in my back is so unbearable, my doctor thinks its the baby but i know its not! Im 24 weeks pregnant with my first. I wish it would go away but i have a feeling it wont until the baby is born. Does anyone know how to relieve the pain, tylenol does not help. thanks

I had similar pain, just after a cold. Coughing caused me to break my rib because my diaphram (muscle under my ribs) was pushed up higher because of my growing uterus. Pain lasted 4 weeks.

I ALSO HAVE THIS HORRIBLE PAIN AND IT IS THE BIGGEST DISCOMFORT BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT THE PAIN NEVER STOPS TYLENOL DOES NOT HELP ME EITHER. I AM SO MISERABLE I HAVE A DESK JOB AND SITTING IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST POSITION FOR ME AND ON THE WEEKENDS I HAVE TO WORK 12 HOUR DAYS AND IT IS UNBEARABLE TO ME. I EVEN HAVE A HARD TIME SLEEPING AT NIGHT BECAUSE I HAVE TO SLEEP ON MY SIDE AND IT TENDS TO BE VERY PAINFUL TO. NOW MY STOMACH RIGHT UNDER MY RIBS FEEL AS IF IT AS BEEN BEAT IT HURTS TO BARELY CARESS THE SKIN. ITS SO BAD I NEARLY CRY.

I have terrible rib ache on the front and back under my ribs on the right hand side. I saw a chiropractor 5 days ago and now the pain is more unbearable. He thought a rib had "popped" out of place. Tomorrow I'm going to a conventional doctor to see if I can get a referral to a pract_tioner who might be able to give some relief.Gosh, it hurts! The only relief I get is from a hot water bottle pressed to my ribcage.

I can't believe this many people have this rib pain on their RIGHT SIDE. Mine is only on my back, 1" under my bra strap, 1" beside my spine, and about 3-4" long. This is my 3rd pregnancy and the pain has gotten worse w/ every one. I'm 21 wks and i've been hurting for about 3 wks. I was also told by a chiropractor that my rib "pops" out of place. To me it feels more like a muscle, although it does hurt when i take a deep breath. I guess that the muscles try to work harder to keep it in place..? I'm a__suming that the hormones that get your hips ready to spread and getting EVERY thing else to spread!! There has to be something that helps.

During my last pregnancy I had the same rib pain. Oddly enough -- once I bought a bigger more comfortable bra -- the pain went away and never came back again. I am currently pregnant (22 weeks) -- and wear comfortable bras that fit -- and I haven't had any rib pain to date. Not sure if this is why -- but switching to a bra that fit properly helped me.

Don't worry, it's just some kind of cold. You must put vicks or something like this on the rib area. Do this 2 times a day. It'll help

Ahh I'm not alone! I'm 32 weeks and have had rib pain since about 24 weeks. I'm still working and have an office job so sitting at a desk is really painful. It's 24 hour pain at the moment and nothing I do gets rid of it. Roll on July!

Jo - May 16

Also, I had my bra size remeasured and have gone from a 32 E to a 40E. I have a correct fitting bra and it still doesn;t help

Update - I posted on here at 28 weeks about my TERRIBLE rib pain that never seemed to stop!! I'm now 33 weeks and it just seemed to go away on its own. I tried everything from Tylenol, to heating pad, to bengay...you name it. The only thing that seemed to help (or maybe distracted me enough) was those sticky heating pads you can buy...thermacare I think. It seemed to help a little but beware - it can get costly! My fiancé (the physical therapist) told me that b/c the baby is pushing everything up, it's irritating our ribs, sometimes even pushing one or two out of place. Who knows...it will remain a mystery but to all you ladies who are experiencing this, hang in there. Hopefully it will go away soon enough...
