Happymommy that is what I was wondering about! I was at a bundles for babies cla__s and a speaker came in and was saying that you get a 1000 tax deduction but if you dont owe taxes or they dont come to that, then they did away with the getting the 1000 or left over back. That was a huge a__s run on sentance. haha

thats b/s cause over here even if you have a job we still get family a__sistance fortnightly. your president should think about young mothers and others these are the problems bush needs to work on

In SA, unemployed mothers get R240 a child - that will be about $35. And then many mothers see this monthly "income" as incentive to have more. And this is after the dad takes his 50% "cut", because, the reasoning goes, he also helped create that child. So the grand total is then about $210 a year. My mind is boggled.

Hey Amber, just wanted to clarify, the family a__sistance fornightly payment is only an ent_tlement to people who earn under a certain salary each year. I think the cutoff is about $95,000AUS for a couple...above and you dont get anything (quite rightly), and below that, you are ent_tled to payments, however the payment is based on how much below that margin you are.

THATS RIGHT

I just wanna voice my opinion. Here in the US while it does happen, we do not need more children being born into families who can not care for their children, Here is the US, If you are under a certain income limit you qualify for alot of govt. a__sistance. You can get on housing, where the govt will pay most of if not all your rent. You can get on food stamps, where the govt again will pay for all your groceries. You can get on WIC. Where the govt again helps out with food and formula. We get a break in our taxes. There is even a program that you can get on to help out with utilities. So our govt does take care of the people here. Every country is different and has its strong points and its weaknesses. JMO but I think it is ridiculous to hand someone a $5000 check and say here you go! They give you guys that money for the children and I think it is sad that alot of the time it dosent go to them and their needs. I am SO SO SO GLAD our govt DOES NOT do that here. They help us and make sure that the help is being applied to things that is needed. And also, people seen to want to blame the current president in the US for everything! But it does not fall just on him. He cant do just what ever he wants. JMO but I think it is a bad idea to just hand someone a check and hope they use it for the right thing. I am pleased with the a__sistance program here in the US. Again it has its bugs that need to be worked out. Every country does.

I agree completely with you Jenn. Damn that was a lot to write lol. I think the people that really need help in the US get it, and yet there are still so many people taking advantage of the system. If the handed people $5000 teens wouldnt question having babies, they would just do it. . . horrible. That would just make things worse in the US. I don't think we deserve money for breeding lol. If you can afford a baby go for it. If you can't use a rubber. If it breaks or if your family falls into a financial rut or the dad leaves then use the governments help for as long as you need it. ya know?

Jennifer--Well said!! I completely agree. I also am of the opinion that it is an insult to a person's dignity to just hand everything over. I agree when you say that people are taken care of who need it--and some people who really don't need it. I have friends who have a__sistance who I don't think really need it that much. It is very important to be compa__sionate and realize who needs help and I think that we as citizens should also help out. But the idea of complete hand-outs does not help anybody--it creates a sense of ent_tlement and makes people believe that they are unable to help themselves.

HAHAH Dont be silly! Wrap your Willy!! hahaha No I agree! There would be alot more problems here in the US if parents were just handed a check. Can you imagine!? In order to get rid of collection calls, People would have children. Recieving money is the worst possible reason to have a child.

12 months maternity leave? WHAT'S THAT? In the us we get 6 weeks (at my job its unpaid) and we are forced to go back to work because we can't afford to be a stay at home mom! I'm moving out of the country ! lol

jennifer_33106 - November 21

Oh me to Happymommy!! I dont like handouts. I have way too much pride for my own good. Also yes! There are so many people that still take advantages of what the US has! Could you imagine if we were handed a check! haha I am not being mean I promise but hahah what is that!? Like a door prize into motherhood! haha

jennifer_33106 - November 21

bridgetwin, I am already staying at home. I dont have to work after the baby is born and I dont wanna. I dont want to give the "firsts" to anyone. If children are planned then it shoud be in the planning stages where you decide if you are going to need to or want to go back to work. I know that alot of the time it is unplanned but again Hand outs are not the answer. I think one of the big problems here in the US is that we are all so used to luxary things. Having that $5 cup of coffee, name brand items ect. With a little bit of financial planning and management unless you are working mickey D's you can make it as a SAHM. Agian my opinion.

Can you imagine how many selfish people would get the $5000 in the US and then give their children up for adoption. Lol, I'm laughing but thats serious, it would happen over here. I plan to stay home 7 and a half months so far after the baby is born. Thats as much paid leave that I can squeeze out of my job. Wait 6 weeks of that is unpaid. Here is my break down incase your intrested lol. 8 weeks paid maternity leave because of c section. 12 weeks paid family leave (dh can take that as well, paid) Then 12 weeks bonding with baby time is what my job offers 6 weeks paid 6 weeks un paid. I really want to stay home longer. I will have to figure something out. :)

lol for real. The safe haven baby drop offs would over flow. I used to walk past Kaiser's safe haven drop off everyday. I always looked to see if any babies were dropped off. I never saw any. I dont know if that was a good thing or bad. . . . . I'd rather them at the drop off then a trash can ya know?

I am 5 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby. I stayed home for 3 1/2 years and had to go back to work. I had the luxury of staying home that long. I count my blessings. Since that time my husband lost his job of 14 years and can't find work but a lower paying job. Life's a struggle!
