Slow Rising HCG Levels

Hi. I had my first pregnancy test on August 4 and my hcg level was 30. I am estimating that conception occurred on approximately July 23. (I received an IUI insemination on July 21). I went in again for my next test on August 6 and my level was at 50. However, when I went in for my most recent test, yesterday August 8, my level had dropped to 49. My sister, an ob/gyn is convinced that this is just a pregnancy that did not take. (She says they do not refer to it as a miscarriage this early). I go in for another test tomorrow. I am really clinging to hope but deep down inside I have a feeling that my sister may be right. Has anyone had a similar experience where their level has dropped early in pregnancy and then risen again? Thanks to all who respond, Jennifer

Nicole: I'm like in your situation. I have HCG levels that are not doubling. Last LMP was 6/14/05. Fertility cycle of clomid/repronex/hcg trigger/iui/progesterone supplements. IUI was on 6/27. Doctor thinks I somehow ovulated way later and also implanted later. Beta1 on 7/28 was 3178; Beta2 on 7/31 was 5,303. On 8/1, ultrasound showed early makings of gestational sac typical of 5-5-1/2weeks. Took another Beta3 on 8/3 was 5,786; Beta4 on 8/5 was 6183, and finally Beta5 on 8/7 was 8968. New ultrasound on 8/9 showed gestational sac and yolk in uterus but not the fetal pole (too small to measure). Good news though, doctor ruled out ectopic pregnancy. Now I'm awaiting another ultrasound next week to see if fetal pole and possibly heartbeat can be seen. It's been a rollercoaster but remain hopeful. Please post how many weeks you are now and how you are feeling.

jsut thought i'd give you all an update on my situation. my level did just barely couble between days 20 and 22 then again between days 22 and 24. at 5 weeks 3 days they did not see a gestational sac and told me i probably had an ectopic, but at 5 weeks 5 days they saw the sac in the uterus right where it was supposed to be. at 6 weeks 3 days i was back in because i was having some bleeding and they saw a heartbeat but it was only 82. they told me i was probably going to miscarry. despite all their dire predictions, i am now 8 weeks 6 days, the baby is 1.6 cm (it's measuring about a week behind), and the heartbeat is a nice, strong 156 bpm. there is definitely hope for those of you out there with the slowly-rising hcg levels. so hang in there.

Hi everyone. I'm glad I was able to find this site. I went through IVF and am at 28 days since LMP. At 25 from LMP I tested positive at hcg of 35. Today (at 28 days) is only went up to 41.4. My estrogen and Progesterine levels are right where they need to be but from what I am finding online about the hcg it is too low. Any words of wisdom would help. After 3 tubal pregnancies and finally having ivf I think that I am pretty discouraged. :(

oh my! I am so glad I didn't stop looking for answers! I've had 3 miscarriages and one successful pregnancy. My son is now 2. I am pregnant once again. From the beginning, my doctor had a hard time finding the sac. She always had to seek a second opinion to find the sac and confirm it is there. I am supposed to be at 7 weeks, but like most of you, my hcg levels aren't rising the way they're supposed to. After having the flu, I started spotting...actually, bleeding. I went in for an ultrasound and this time the doc had no trouble finding the sac but was not convinced anything was growing in it. It's been four days and I have stopped bleeding. I don't go in for another u/s until Friday...this time by a radiologist. My mom is trying to stay positive, but my husband and I have gone through this so many times before that it's hard to keep our hopes up. After finding this site, I am relieved I am far from being alone. My hopes have been renewed...especially since I have stopped spotting. Thank you, everyone. God bless us all!

Melanie thanks for giving me hope. I am supposedly 7 weeks right now. Last Tuesday my levels were 28,000 and on Wednesday I had an u/s but there was no heartbeat. On Thursday levels only went up 9,000. Then Monday it only went up another 10,000. My doctor actually told me she didn't want me to be optimistic because it wasn't doubling. She's kind of negative. But she did schedule me for another u/s this coming Friday and I really hope it shows something. I can't stand not knowing! I hope to read about everyone's updates.

As many of you have said: Thanks to God I found this website. Here are my facts: LMP was 7/9, on 8/3 I had some bleeding and I thought it was my period; however on monday I went to the dr. thinking I had an urinary trac infection but it was a pregnancy. I worried because of the bleeding I had have yet my obgyn said it was normal because of implantation. On 8/10 I started bleeding at night and it lasted until the morning, it was only a tbs max but with some mild cramping and i pa__sed two small particles. On 8/12 I started bleeding again, this time less than the previous one but cramping was stronger, in only one side and I was pa__sing more particles, it only lasted a couple of hours. I called my obgyn right away and I went for an ultrasound on monday 8/15. The dr. wasn't able to find the baby but said it was normal this early on the pregnancy. She also said the uterus wall looked think and normal as it should look; however, because of the bleeding I had experience I was order a couple of blood test to see my HCG level. My HCG level on Monday was 4 thousand and something and on thursday it was only 5 thousdand and something. The dr. said she thinks I might be miscarring because the numbers should have double and yet my body is acting weird because I'm not bleeding anymore and the #s are still going up. On Monday I have to do another blood test and on tuesday I'll have another ultrasound. Please, keep me in your prayers, because I need a lot of it. I know that God will do what's best.

An update for those interested. I had another miscarriage. After my first three, you'd think it would be easier this time around, but it's not. It never is. I am emotionally tired of doctors who won't do anything to help me. My son's doctor was a God send because he was the only one who went out of his way to help me and was willing to take a risk to see what might work. Obviously, he did something right because my boy was born. Now, with this pregnancy, I feel like this new doctor is just like all the others. (I relocate a lot, so that's the reason for the different doctors...otherwise, I'd stick with the one who gave me my son). After not bleeding for a week, I've started bleeding again...this time, pa__sing clots...as I knew I would since I've been through so many miscarriages. For you ladies who continue to worry about bleeding, I do have some uplifting information...my mom bled throughout her pregnancy with my brother and myself...and we were born. I know several other ladies who were the same way. The key is prayer. Let go and let God. God bless us all.

I'm 6 weeks + 4 and have been experiencing stomach cramps. I have had 4 blood tests for my HCG levels, have gone from 405 to 660, 773 and now they have decreased to 673. The doctors have told me to wait and see but are pretty sure it is an ectopic. However the confusing thing is that they can see the embryonic sac on the scan, but the baby is no where near as developed as it should be at this stage. Its really worrying! Has anyone else had similar levels at this stage?

Hello everyone...I am a 25 yr old mother of 2 pregnant with my 3rd child.I found out I was pregnant August 8th.My LMP was 8/4 and last 2 days.....A week after I found out I was pregnant I started bleeding.First it was brown and slowly turned a little red.The doctors had no answer for the blood so they started ordering HCG tests. On August 15th my HCG was at 59,August 18 went up to 85.3 and today August 23rd it was said to be 152.It's not doubling by any means.I got back on the 30th for another HCG test. The doctors seem to think I am anywhere from 3 wks to almost a month along.I really wish we knew more on the HCG tests cause by reading everything I find there is no good answer for them.Sometimes it gives good answer and sometimes bad.I reall wish I knew what is going on....

well ladies, this is my story i found out i was pregnant on my 26th birthday aug. 12th ....what a great present. i have 5 living children and I have had 1 miscarriage. ian suposably 5 weeks and 3 days they have been checking my levels constantly since i found out i was pregnant my first draw was 87.1 on the 16th ..... then on the 18th it was 184 ( so far so good) BUT on the 18th i started spotting so the checked on the 20th and the were 459 (still good EXCEPT the spotting) i was told LOTS of woman spot ... I went and told my husband the next day something just doesnt feel right at all.... so the day of my oldest sons birthday ( the 21st) i started bleeding/cramping so i went and called on monday to the doc. and he told me those horriable words " If your miscarry there is nothing we can do except let nature take it course" yuck I hate those word ( its true and i understand that but YUCK) so he order another blood hcg test to see my numbers and we all expected them to be going DOWN i mean im bleeding just like i would for a period... so on my 4th day of bleeding i got checked again and its slowing down BUT its still going up its now at 850 no one knows what is going on at all. i have talked to a few doc. no one can tell me anything except waite and see....... like i and my husband both said we can handle a miscarriage we can we are pretty strong believers that god has a plan for all of us .... But i juat cant stand this not knowing if i should keep hope or prepare for the worst!!!!!!! Iam going back to get another level on Fri .. I will posst on here after i know more on fri.... my doc will NOT give me an ultra sound beings he says im way to early... ( wow... dont like him) So ill post TOMORROW!!!!!

Ginger - August 25

I have struggled with infertility for 10 years - suffered six miscarriages and adopted two children as a result. I found out last week that I'm pregnant - and we were not trying. Obviously, with my history, I'm not trying to get too hopeful, but this is my most unusual pregnancy yet, and I have such peace this time. Here's the deal: I spotted for about three weeks, but work and back-to-school have been hectic, so I thought it was a weird period. But since I just didn't feel right, I thought I'd do a home pregnancy test just for grins. I called the doctor and they did an hcg 8/17 (my 12 year anniversary) - it was in the 500s. On 8/19 - it was only 614, but hadn't been a full 48 hours, so they thought maybe it was okay. (I am fortunate - this doctor is not doom and gloom - and not giving up hope). That night, I started bleeding heavily and pa__sed lots of tissue - having experienced so many miscarriages - I was certain that's what had happened. I had another hcg on 8/22 - and my count was up to 1200! They can't figure it out - I think I pa__sed a twin, but there's no way to know. On 8/24 - it had only gone up to 1689, but it's still rising. So - it's still not doubling, but it's rising, and the doctor and nurse aren't ruling out a healthy pregnancy yet. Don't know yet when I'll go for another test, but I'm begging for an u/s. I'm very unsure of how far along I am, because of irregular cycles. I think I'm probably about 6 - 7 weeks, which is why the doctor is hesitant to do an u/s yet - because if we don't see anything, it still won't mean anything at this point. Anyway - it's nice to know I'm not alone. I'll keep everyone posted. And remember - He knew our names before there was time.

Stephanie - August 25

Hello Ladies, I first posted on May 20th if you want to scroll up and get some history. I just wanted to inform you that I had all of these strange hcg readings also, we made it all the way to 18 weeks. The baby was healthy and normal and would have been just fine had my water not broke so early. The Doctors believe it was just bad luck. So please keep your faith...all these funcky HCG's can result in a perfect baby. Praying for all of you, Steph
