When carrying out IVF, it is possible to exclude child’s genetic diseases even before getting pregnant. For this purpose, the ISIDA clinic was one of the first in Ukraine to introduce an ultra-precise method for the diagnosis of embryos, NGS, in November 2016. The NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) method allows detection of chromosomal pathologies with an accuracy of up to 99.9%. It eliminates the risk of having a child with chromosomal abnormalities almost completely.
This procedure is carried out in the conditions of an embryological laboratory: specialists take material for analysis on the fifth day of embryo development. We take the sample from the outer layer of the embryo, so the risks for its further development are minimal. Since embryos are able to live in artificial conditions for up to five days, and the analysis takes time, we perform a cryocycle. Embryos are ultrafast frozen, and then transferred in the next cycle - to the period most suitable for conception. Therefore, doctors get the opportunity to perform the NGS procedure and better prepare the woman for pregnancy: to stabilize the hormonal background, to make sure the endometrium is ready (the inner mucosa of the uterus body, the mucous layer) for implantation.
The implementation of NGS is indicated for patients who plan IVF - especially if there have already been failures at the implantation or gestation stage. The couples who are at risk of having a child with a genetic abnormality should also think about NGS. Primarily, this applies to those who know or suspect the presence of dangerous genes in themselves. Do not discount the age factor, because over the years the probability of developing chromosomal abnormalities increases.
