Smoking And Pregnant

Good Monday morning ladies. I went out and bought Allen Carr's book The EasyWay to stop smoking. It has really opened my eyes, I am only half way through it and it has really hit home. He tells of the reasons we smoke and the reasons we don't quit. Which is basically fear of quitting because it would be like losing our friends. I had stated before that I am afraid to quit and to have that written in a book made me feel better and that I am not alone. He was a 5 pack a day smoker and found the "easyway" to stop smoking. You are to smoke as usualy while you read the book, and actually half way into it, it is hard to keep smoking. But if he says it works, then I will do what he says. He has a 90% success rate. He doesn't tell us the dangers of smoking which we all know anyways, and he concludes that those no n smokers who think they are helping by telling you the cancer risks and all the other risks are NOT helping us. We get scared aagain or more defient and it just makes us what to light another. I reccomend this book to anyone that wants to quit. I am looking forward to finishing it. When I am done I plan to pa__s it on to anyone who needs it. If you need it let me know, if you cannot afford to buy your own I will send it to you. Good luck to all of you and God Bless you.

Cathy, where did you get the book? Book-A-Million, Barns & Nobles, i'm in B'ham, AL and would like to pick up on lunch break, sounds like a great book, maybe i can finally for once and all quit.....because like you, i see cigs as a friend, i know that sounds stupid as hell, but i've smoked since high school, not much, less that half a pack a day but still it's smoking. Thanks so much.

I picked it up at Barnes & Nobel. It is in the addictions section. The author is Allen Carr and it is called The Easy way to stop smoking. There is also one just for woman but my B&N didn't have that one. Good Luck

You CAN stop smoking. You should care enough about your child's health to stop. If my Mother can quit cold turkey after 40 plus years of smoking, anyone can! She was a bonifide chain smoker.

to D and anyone like her - September 12

oh just shut up already.. I DO care about my baby, i am doing the best i can.. i am sick and tired of hearing otherwise from people who don't know anything about me!! i don't care what your mother did, i don't care what your friend, relative, friends' friend's sister did... whatever! I am ME, not them.. you are NOT helping so just SHUT UP!

Sounds like your cigarettes are not the stress reliever most smokers claim. Think about WHY you smoke. Weight the pros & cons. Talk to your doctor, there ARE things that your doctor can tell you & prescibe for you to help you quit. But FIRST, you have to WANT to quit. I will not shut up, I care, I care about all of the unborn, innocent, helpless babies who should be given every opportunity to be born and grow up healthy, happy and loved. I am not putting anyone down, I am trying to encourage healthy behavior.

To D and all the non smokers out there. Before you try and give us advice that we ALREADY know, I recommend that you read the book The Easy Way to stop smoking. It will give you insight into what we go through day after day after day. We know that we chose to start, we know what the pitfalls are, we know everything that you know except how to beat it. Obviously you know how to beat it, NEVER START but that isn't going to work for us, we did start a long time ago and now it is just a monkey on our backs. So please listen to me, all the negativity and and bad mouthing no matter where your heart is is not going to help us. What we need is each other for support. The more you talk about the pitfalls of smoking the more inclined we are to go light one up. I know that doesn't make much sense to the non smokers but it does to us and it does happen. Just ask any of us. PLease if you want to help read up on the subject and then help us not hinder us. Thank you

hey..anything in moderation is ok..for ex i drink a gla__s of wine with dinner a few times a week and all my babies have been fine (having my fourth)..and I don't think a cig every once in a while would hurt, either..but..unfortunately..those addicted to cigs (or alcohol) should not have these things "every once in a while" b/c it is too hard for them to stop..and they end up having too many..having that many cigs can hurt your baby,...i mean he is not going to come out missing an arm or retarted or anything but it is not good..i know it is hard to stop...but i think may be joining a support group will help you...AA/NA groups will not mind (most of them at least) you coming to a meeting with this issue..especially an NA meeting..they will really help you...

and i smoked as a teen and when i went to college i had a counselor tell me something that helped (it sounds stupid but try it)...when you get a craving go where no one can see you and pretend you are smoking a cig...do the sucking and breathing and move your fingers to your lips...hold a pencil if necessary..do this for a few min and the craving will pa__s..remember it is tough but the craving is like a wave...if you ride the wave it will get smaller and then end!! you just have to deal with one wave at a time...the pretend thing helps because 1/2 of cig smoking is a rythmic breathing that relaxes you!! try the rythmic breathing without the cig...i am a substance abuse counselor now and tell my cients this and they all say this helps :)

Please know that this type of thread will generate negative responses from those who dont smoke, or resent the fact that you do. I have to say by responding to all their posts bashing you guys, you egg them on. Why not ignore them and continue with your thread rather then address each poster who has a negative comment. Continue supporting each other and not the posters you feel are intruding on your thread! You wont be able to keep them away, but ignoring them will bore them. Good luck to all of you trying to quit or cut down! (I am trying ttc, not pregnant, and dont smoke!)

I am a non-smoker; but my father and my brother are. They have both tried to quit many many times and have always went back. Sometimes they would get as far as 3 weeks or 3 months without a cigarette only to light up again if they got really stressed, or p__sed off..it was their way of relaxing and it's an addictive habit. Now, I don't buy cigarettes for them anymore at the duty free because they are trying to quit and I want to help them. I've seen how addictive it is and how it is to quit and if you can succeed, good for you! I wish you all the best because I believe I must be the hardest thing to have to do. Good luck! :o)

Sorry meant to say "IT must be the hardest thing to have to do"...Cheers.
