Her Dad Won T Let Me Raise My Daughter

I'm a 17.5 year old father living with my child, 15 year old girlfriend, and her father, but he insists that I do everything HIS way. I admit that some of his methods are good, but it's getting to a point where he won't let me father her at all. He's usually a good guy, but he's kinda obsessive about looking after his family. When I've tried to talk to him in the past, he turns around and tells me I have no right to make decisions on what's best for my child and usually rubs in the fact that I had pressured her to sleep with me. I know that I did something stupid, and I've been true to my family, but he doesn't seem to care and just keeps making life more difficult. How may this affect my daughter, and how should I approach the problem?

Family counseling is the best option. I think you need a third party to intervene. You should be allowed to father your baby the way you see fit. However, I can only imagine what it must be like for her father, having his daughters live-in boyfriend who got her pregnant, in the same home as him. His position is tough as you are both still minors and I doubt he fully trusts your judgment. I am sure your daughter will be fine and she is lucky to have grandpa helping to raise her. Afterall, where would you kids be if it was not for him allowing you to reside in his home. Please understand I am not bashing you but want you to see the side of the father of a teen who is likely trying to help you guys. Let us know what happens. Best of luck:) Oh, kudos for staying in this woman's life to help her raise your child!!!! Can't say enough good things about that. That is what being a man is all about.

I totally agree with E. That is good advice. It is great that you are doing your best to be a good dad to your child.
