OK they say not to put blankets into the bassinet/crib with your baby before age 1. But I cover Matt with blankets all the time. It's damn cold in NY right now, and if I swaddle him, he kicks out of it and ends up with blankets in his bassinet anyway! Do you guys have blankets in with your little ones? How dangerous is it really?

You can use a wearable blanket that zips up. You can find those at Babies R Us. Or we always put a blanket on our baby (2 months) just tuck in the sides. Our baby kicks all over too, so we use heavy crocheted (sp?) blankets in case she does cover her head. If your baby can kick out of swaddles (ours did too) more than likely he can pull it off his face. By the way, I'm from MI, it's cold here too!

My baby is 8.5 months and I have used a cover since it started to get cold. One year old is really stretching it. Most sacks don't fit babies the size of my son. I have no choice.

I probably shouldn't admit it, but I have two blankets in the crib with him - I safely pinned them at the bottom (so they don't reach over his head) with those little diaper safety pins. I tried and tried to get him to sleep without the blankets, but I think he needs the weight of them. I got the idea from my mom...

I put Ben in a fleece sleeper sack along with his sleper and an undershirt. I have heard that tucking the covers under the matress is a safe way to have covers in the crib/ba__sinet. I like KrisD's suggestion too.

Amaya has a blanket that she goes everywhere with. She sleeps with it over her face (so sue me!) but it is a crochet blanket. The blanket has holes in it and she has never once had a problem breathing. Maybe you could put him in lots of layers and then give him a crochet blanket to keep his hands and face warm!

Lucas sleeps next to me and I use my blankets for him. They don't cover his face, but when he naps in his crib I cover him with blankets, It's cold here in Ohio! He does just fine with them.

Since birth I put blankets on Emma. Too cold in MN not to! I just make sure her arms are not under them as she'll stretch and pull the blanket over her face. I just rest her arms on the top or she sleeps in the goal post position! I use two blankets on her in the crib and I did in her ba__sinet too. When she sleeps in bed with me I pull them up under her chin and over her arms right next to me on her side as they're heavier blankets and she can't get out of them. She sleeps so much sounder in bed with me. Might be the swaddling feeling from being snug in bed.

I'd be a d__n fool to live in Canada and not cover up my baby with a blanket! I've done it with both kids. I will swaddle my baby with a thin fleece blanket (arms free) and lightly cover him with a baby sized comforter. The north winds b__w through our house like a tornado!

I put a blanket in Ellie's ba__sinet and use hair claws to clip it to the sides. She even has warm pajamas and gets swaddled but we live in Minnesota so no matter how high the heat is turned up it still is cold!

My son is almost 6 months and I never let him have a blanket at night :O( I feel so bad about it. Af ew times now there has been a blanket in his crib and he has had it wrapped around his head, thank god for my monitor so I could see what was going on. It scared me! During the day I do give him one when I can watch the monitor. I live in Maine so it gets very COLD here so I keep his room on 71 and dress him in 2 layers.

I do put blankets on my daughter for sleep. (two light ones) I put them only waste high and when she wakes she automatically kicks them downward and off. I have a fleece sleep sack that also works well, but than I wonder if she gets too hot. She can't kick that one off. I know we all try to follow the rules to prevent sids, but some times it is hard to be 100% perfect. Mommy instincts come in very handy in those cases.
