Well my daughter is 6mo. and like 2 weeks ago she started coughing, as days went by she kept coughing more and more. I took her to the doctors on the 21st of July and he said its because she also has a runny nose and so it drains to her throat. I did everything he told me like take her to the bathroom and turn the shower so it builds steam, use the boogie sucker, lay her kind of upright, and he also said i can give her infant medicine at night. But the cough just got even more worse. So i took her back on the 28th to the docs and this time he prescribed antibiotics u know the bubblegum one and told me to start giving it to her today aug 2 but i began giving it to her yesterday becasue she coughs ALL the time and hasnt been sleeping and I just want her to get better. Has this every happend to anyone, i dont know what to do. Things like bronchitus (dont know how to spell that) and pnemonia scare me. Her cousin had pnemonia and im scared she might get it. Her doctor said its a virus and will go away but HEllooo its been 2 weeks. I really dont knwo what to do, i hate seeing her sick.

I would take her to another doctor and get a second opinion. Just to be on the safe side. Let us know what happen. Good luck and take care..... Its just probably a cold. Sometimes a cold take a little longer to go away. I hope she feel better soon.

Yea If she doesnt get better by Friday then im going to take her to another doctor, im going to see if the antibiotics help her. Im just soo worried because her cousin is 1 1/2 years old and she had the same symptoms for a long time. They kept taking her to the doctors and they kept tellin her o its a cold and just giving her medicine. They finally took her to another doctor because she got really bad and they told her she had pnemonia. Thanks Keekee for responding.

My 9 year old stayed sick from birth. Doctors kept telling me its normal and he will grow out of it. Finally I took him to a specialist, he told me what was wrong with him. I have learn an important life lesson. Doctors don't know everything. Sometimes it take a couple opinions/doctor to get answers. So if you don't feel comfortable with what your child's doctor, take her to another one. Good luck!!!

Hello! My 4 month old has the same thing. Listen to her breathing. If it sounds labored or if it sound like gurgling, get a second opinion quickly. Also, you said your doctor perscribed the bubblegum stuff. I am a__suming that is amoxicillin. It will help, but not right away with the coughing. I am giving mine amoxicillin and a cough suppresent until he gets better. Also, why would your doctor perscribe an antibiotic if he thinks it is a virus? That is weird...... Anyway, keep an eye on her......Good luck!

Yea i know, amoxicillin is for bacteria infection. I guess he did it to shut me up about it.

My little sister-shes 6, had bad coughs and my mother would take her to the doctor every couple months. The doctors didn't think anything of it but a year later, it just kept getting worse and my mom couldn't stand my poor sister coughing and took her to the emergency room and she had had pneumonia for a couple months...and the doctors didn't even know. My son is 10 months now and since he was born, he's had a cough. I've kept him away from so many potential germs and didn't let people/children touch him etc. I am a first time mom so of course I worry. Just make sure you watch your daughter closely to see if it gets worse, if it affects her breathing, and if shes had it for a very long time. Good luck.
