Driving To Get Baby To Nap

My son is 6 months old. When he was an infant all the advice was to do whatever it takes to soothe him and to nap. Well for him it was a car ride and a stroller ride. Our schedule: wake up at 7a, eat, play for two hours, then head to Starbucks for coffee, about a half hour away, so he will take an hour nap. Back at home he eats, then plays for two hours, then its off to the mall or Target, he naps fpr about 40 minutes. Then we shop for about two hours and play, then the ride home he has about an hour nap. We literally have been doing this for 6 months. Have I created a monster? In our regular schedule he usually falls asleep like an angel. If I have to stay home for some reason, he screams bloody murder to take a nap in his bed. I am not someone who will stay at home with a baby. I HAVE TO GET OUT OR I GO CRAZY!!!!! Also my home is being renovated, so it is not a place I want to be anyway. Will my baby ever take a normal nap in his bed? P.S. He sleeps great at night, 10 hours since he was 2 1/2 months. Thanks.
