Has anyone else heard of an infant getting hemorroids? My daughter got so constipated and we were trying to give her water like the Dr said but she refused to drink it. After the 2nd day, she strained so hard that when she went, she let out a scream. I rushed her to the Dr and she actually has a tear which is horrible but to make matters worse, she also got hemorroids! The Dr said to wait a few weeks and see if they go down on their own before acting any further but I am not comfortable with that. Has anyone else dealt with this and is there anything I can do?

How old is your daughter? The tear that you are reffering to is called an a___l fissure. And yes, it can happen with constipation because the stool gets hard since it has been in the intestine for a while and if it is large enough it can stretch the a__s and cause it to tear. I'm concerned that your doc keeps wanting to wait especially if these things have happened already. I say this because if it hurts her to go and she relates having a BM to that she might hold it in the next time and make it worse. Yes, cont to increase fluids as much as you can and if I knew her age, if she was old enough you could increase fiber like with bran cereals, fruits, beans, prunes, Prune juice (which may not be very tasty for them). If she is a baby, or very young I have heard that apple juice-about 4 oz or so could also help. My mother told me that years ago they used to give babies some water with sugar and that could also help because of the glucose. If you do not get results in 24 hrs. You could try glycerin suppositories (yeah, I know not very thrilling) but if you have to...they aren't medicated, they will just lubricate. And if worse comes to worse, go back to your doc and ask for a stool softer, it comes in liquid form to make easier for little ones. Let me know how it goes and good luck. (don't wait to long though, it could make the situation worse)

I've been back to our doc for a similar thing. My daughter is nearly 8 weeks. I told the doc what I see when she strains. He tells me she may have a rectal prolapse. It happens he says. We're to keep an eye on it for a couple of weeks, it may sort itself. To fix it involves a 'procedure' and general anasthetic. She is a happy bub and not worried by it but it stresses me out no end to see her straining and shreak. But yeah we also get smears of blood in the nappy , or diaper.

Well, I have been giving her 2 oz of apple juice mixed with 2 oz of water but she seems to dislike that as well and I can only get her to drink about 2 oz of it throughout the day. I also found a formula with lower iron to see if that may be the culprit. She is only 10 weeks. It seems to have softened her stool a bit and she is not straining as much and seems much happier so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I am still really worried about the hemorroids though. They do not seem to be going down at all and I dont know if they are causing her any discomfort (she is such a happy baby its hard to tell).
