Just Spitting Up Or Pyloric Stenosis

Hi. I am not sure what to do. Ben gets into these episodes every other day or so where he spits up a lot- sometimes what looks like a full meal. He has also spit up partially digested milk through his nose on three occassions and undigested milk once. I took him to the doctor about it about 10 days ago. It was not his regular ped and she did not seem too concerned. He is exclusively br___tfed. I try to burp him between br___ts and when he is finished, but he is a tough one to burp either because he is asleep or being fussy. Should I call the doc again and ask him to check Ben out for pyloric stenosis, or am I overreacting?

i'm not sure christy but i remember talking with you about this sorta thing before. my little girl projectile spits up/vomits quite a bit of b___stmilk often. it's gone out her nose a few times too. she's been doing it like everyday for the past few days. i'm getting worried about it too. she has her 2 month appointment coming up again and i'm gonna ask about it again. i'll tell you if it turns out to be this pyloric stenosis or GERD. if you're really worried about it then get it checked out, and if it's not pyloric stenosis then at least you have peace of mind.

I will hold off for now as he is still soiling diapers and seems to be growing, but let me know what happens at your appointment. Thanks.

Ladies, I'm no expert, but my son had pyloric stenosis. If the baby spits up more than half their feeding 2-3 times in one day then it's time to call the doc. If the baby does indeed have PS, then little or no food would get through resulting in no dirty/wet diapers, and loss of weight. Symptoms of PS also peak at around 8 weeks. Shannon, I think you need to take your daughter to the doctor right away if she's spitting up like that every day. She can become dehydrated very easily. Good luck.

I have been going through the exact same thing with Hannebelle (which is why I haven't been on here much). Hannebelle was spitting up through her nose often (shooting across the bed) and writhing in pain ... doctor put her on Zantac first but it didn't seem to help at all (and gave her ma__sive diarrhea) then the doctor gave her Prevacid (which has been another nightmare) and finally we had an ultrasound of her tummy yesterday morning to rule out pyloric stenosis (which it did rule it out). Here is my advice to you, Christy: if Ben is growing, which he is, you may have a problem with forceful letdown (does he gulp at your b___st and sometimes choke or pull away?) I have been feeding Hannebelle with one b___st all day now (and pumping the other) and she seems to be doing great ... actually napping and not fussing ... I did away with all the rx meds as I felt they created more problems than they are worth ... by the way, Hannebelle has pa__sed the ten pound mark already (she's five weeks old) ... if it were pyloric stenosis our babies would NOT be gaining well at all.

Brooooooke! So nice to hear from you! I am glad that Hannebell is doing well. I could have a forceful letdown. Ben kind of plays with my b___st before he latches on and he will cough/choke a little bit during nursing. He spits up a full meal's worth 1-2x/day maybe 3-4x/week. I think I am going to keep an eye on it and call the doc if it gets worse. BTW- Brooke- how are you doing? Do you feel recovered yet?

Brooke- Lucky you. I still have 20 pounds to go. :( I guess that is what happens when you gain over 50 pounds. My goal is to be within 5 pounds of my pre-pregnancy weight by my b-day (March.)

My son was doing that and we found out he is lactose intolerant and since he has been on the proper formula he's been fine, so that too may be an issue to take up with your doctor.
