Ok, someone enlighten me...You know how females have 1 more rib than males? When finding out the s_x of the baby by ultrasound can't they just count the ribs? LOL Maybe it wouldn't work for some reason...but it seems easier than trying to look at their tiny little "parts" doesn't it? Anyways...maybe I am just stupid...so if I am....oh well it's not the end of the world! =)

Men and women have an equal number of ribs. Where did you hear such a thing?

I just looked it up and interestingly, lots of people think the same, Kristina. I guess it originates from the bible, Adams Rib, story. I have never heard this before :)

LOL omg women DON'T have an extra rib?!?!? wtf..where DID I hear such a thing!! hahahaha I crack me up! =D

I think that idea originates from the bible. My human anatomy professor said specifically that men and women both have equal # of ribs. To tell if a skeleton is a man or woman, they look at the pelvis, not ribs. Don't worry, Kristina. A LOT of people think the same thing! (hell, I did until this cla__s!) :-P

It is from the bible...the story of creation, where God takes one of Adam's ribs and uses it to make Eve. That's interesting about the pelvis...you can check the gender of a bird (at least the kinds I've had) the same way, by feeling the pelvic bones...if they're very close together it's male and if there's space between it's female.

That's right, JBear. It's for the babies to go through (Don't we know it!!!)

So you know, DNA tests at the very beginning of pregnancy that are safe and as invasive as a pap smear are under testing now and will be commonplace in a couple of years if not sooner. You'll be able to test for trisomy and other genetic conditions at the first trimester. Gender prediction will also be accurate. There are are some ethical issues with that of course but if this type of testing is out there it's hard to justify stopping it
