hi iam new here, and am happy to have found this site. my 4 1/2 month old daughter has been teething for a short while now. lots of drooling, biting, now pulling on the ears, etc., and she gets cranky. i take her temp, and maybe about 4 days out of 7, mostly in the evenings, she has a low grade fever of 99. something. nothing high enough to warrant a call to the dr., or so they told me last time i did call. she doesn't seem sick, but gets cranky and i will give her infants tylenol to bring the fever back to normal, and help her rest, but does teething cause these fevers to happen? i don't know much about the subject, so any advice would help. also how long does teething last? i mean once the teeth start coming in, does it get easier, or harder on them? i just feel so bad for her. also what is your position on baby oragel? i really would like to try whatever is best, to help relieve the pain, as much as possible for her. thanks so much! lexi

Sometimes when they pull on their ears it means they have an ear infection. My baby has seemed warmer since she started teething, but usually when I take her temp it's normal. Teething lasts until they get all their teeth...but it's not as bad after they cut the first few, at least until the molars come in. Lately people have been saying you shouldn't use baby orajel because it can cause breathing trouble. I've always used it, but very sparingly. Actually, I'm still using the bottle I bought when my first daughter was teething 3 years ago. Once your daughter has a visible tooth, you should start brushing her teeth with baby orajel toothpaste. You don't have to rinse it out.
