It drives me nuts to see kids standing in cars. The other day at Wal-mart, I saw a dad driving around the parking lot with a baby in a front pack on his chest, a toddler leaning up from the back seat, messing with him and child #3 actually in a car seat sleeping. In our state, there are all these signs that say "If you see a drunk driver, pull over and call 911." I think they should have similar signs for children standing in cars!

i know! When i took my son home from the hospital we had to do a crash course on car seat safety, make sure our child was buckled in correctly and that the seat was attached in the car correctly (actually had a nurse in the parking lot with us). The hospital would not discharge us until this was all done, and i know this is standard practice at all hospitals in my city, yet i STILL see kids doing it. I hate it the most when you see them laying in the back window.. it's like, where the hell do you think your kid is going to go if you got into an accident. And don't you think you're more prone to get into an accident if you can't see out your back window and you have another kid trying to lean across your lap?

Some states have numbers to call to report people who don't buckle up their kids. It's not that people just can't afford car seats, either, because there are lots of programs that provide car seats for low-income families.

exactly, i know for a fact it's illegal to have your child in the car without a carseat or booster if they're under 60lbs! The number we dial, is the police! What about all those IDIOTS who leave their infants in the car while they go into the store. When i was waitressing a few years ago i had a couple come in and ask me to move them to another table so they could watch their 3month old daughter that they left in their car. I said NO, GO GET HER OR LEAVE. The dad actually had the nerve to say (i kid you not) "for once i'd just like to be able to go out for a quiet dinner without the baby" i promptly told him "get yourself a F---ing babysitter and don't you EVER come back here or i will call the police". My boss told me that was the only time she didn't fire someone for swearing at a customer (especially since all the OTHER customers heard it too)

I HATE THIS! What makes it so bad, is usually the carseat is in the BACKSEAT!!! Its not even like they dont have one at the moment! A car accident scares me more than SIDS so you can be a__sured that my baby is always and always (until she is at least 35 lol) will be in a car seat. I saw this just yesterday, a guy in a car with the windows rolled down, a child (around 3 years) hanging out the window with the booster seat in the back! Take 30 seconds to pull over and strap the baby in correctly! I just knew any minute that the little girl was going to fall out and someone roll over her. It broke my heart to see it. Anyway, I heard on the news just the other day where a woman found a baby in a carseat in the middle of the road. The dad did it and said it was an accident. HELLO how do you accidentally leave your baby in the middle of the road! Some people with children worry me...

I've seen a man set the infant carrier on the roof of the car (with the baby in it), get in the car and start to back out of the parking space. My husband blocked him in with our car, and honked and pointed at the roof, but the guy still didn't get it. I had to get out and point at the baby. I agree about the people who leave the baby in the car...I've seen stories on the news, frequently, about cars being stolen and then abandoned a few minutes later because the thief realized there was a baby in the backseat. I even saw a woman on the news who left her baby in the car while she went to the gym, because it's illegal to repo a car with anyone in it, and she didn't want her car repo'd while she was in there working out. I wouldn't call 911 for a child not being buckled in, though...when you call 911 here you're on hold at least 10 minutes, so the person would be long gone. That, and if everyone were calling 911 for little things like that, we'd never be able to get through in emergencies.

It is so upsetting to see children unbuckled.... don't these people read the newspapers??!! I feel like shouting out the window to these people and waking them up to the fact that they are endangering the little lives that are riding with them!
