What Is The Problem With Strollers On The Bus

Every few months i end up running into someone who seems to have a major problem with me bringing a stroller on the bus! I run a dayhome and the only mode of transportation i am allowed to use with the kids is the bus and i can't avoid that, but some people always seem so put out that i am there with a stroller. The woman yeserday claimed she was a mother and insisted she never took her kids on the bus, and that the seats should be reserved for PAYING patrons (kids under six are free), and there was no way she would move to another available seat (which there was) just for my sniveling little brats (even though the seats were clearly marked as reserved for people with strollers, walkers/canes, or seeing eye dogs.. none of which applied to her) Do people actually feel this way? or do i keep catching people on a bad day? What do i say?? This has happened more than once, and i'm really at a loss for words... I don't want to go off on them because i have my child with me, and usually others which are not mine, so i need to set a good example..

those people must have other problems in their lives to actually worry about what other people are doing. They probably never had the wonderful experience it is to have children (there is probably a reason for that). Don't worry about what other people think. You do what you need to do and next time someone says something just smile at them and wish them a great day or just tell them you're so sorry they feel that way! Actually, you don't even have to say anything. You do not owe them any type of explanation, or answer-just let them continue to be miserable in their own little world.

She was an angry b*tch. I would stand in a second to allow a child to sit. It's her problem and not yours:)

Speaking as a busdriver, if you mention to the driver sometimes they have the authority to tell them to move. We don't really but most people don't know it so they move when the driver tells them to. Some driver just don't have the inclination to help out because there are so many jerks that we have to deal with on a daily basis that it's simply easier for us to ignore everything. In truth though, strollers can be a major pain in the tushie. I'm not saying this is your case but many people take the bus on a daily basis and instead of keeping this in mind they buy the biggest SUV-type stroller they can get their hands on. Since it's no longer required that you fold the stroller before boarding, it causes all kinds of traffic problems on the bus. Nobody can get by so the back of the bus is empty and the front is jammed. Then you have to start by-pa__sing stops and the people outside are freaking because the they can see that the bus is not full and you get to listen to them the next day all the way to their stop and then some. God forbid you get more than one during rush hour....<shudder> lol Most people are very courteous but you seem to be a magnet for the jerks. That woman sounds like a real cow. Personally I wouldn't move the bus until those children were seated because it's simply hazardous to have those little guys standing. It's to cover my own a__s (from lawsuits) as well as for the safety of the children. Next time try the driver and see what he or she has to say. If s/he doesn't want to do something mention ever-so-sweetly that you hope they don't have to stop suddenly...

I totally understand where you are coming from P. I use a small stroller (unless i have the other kids, then i need the double stroller), but regardless i take the new buses (which luckily are the only kind that go by my place and are used on all major routes) and the front seats on either side fold up for strollers and wheelchairs so they do not block the isle. There are two facing inwards and the first set facing forwards (so four in total) that fold up, and these are the only ones. The driver's insistance was the only thing that made that lady move, and she just stood over me swearing and complaining.. some people.. psht..

yes, she definitely had a stick up her bum. there's lots of them out there, unfortunately. i was once in a large crowd of people with my stroller, and someone had the nerve to mutter (just loud enough for me to hear, of course) that, "people with kids should just stay home." i responded by saying that, "grouchy old bags should just stay home." you can't please everyone, so just stop trying :-)
