Why Is He Sleeping So Much

Matthew seems to be having a VERY sleepy day. I've never seen him sleep so much! He had a usual night last night, woke 2 times to eat, didn't want to go back to sleep right away. Same as always. But today I can't seem to be able to keep him awake. Should I let him sleep? I'm afraid he wont sleep AT ALL tonight if I do. He's 5 1/2 weeks, is this normal for his age? I switched his formula today...now it's milk-based. I wonder if that could have something to do with it...

Sounds like a growth spurt to me...My daughter will sleep almost around the clock when she's growing.

Really? That would make sense I guess. The past two days he's been eating way more than he used to.

I agree with Jbear (who always has great answers!) my son did the same thing when he was brand new. I guess it just makes them tired to grow so fast!

The more they grow, the longer they will sleep at night, too.

yes well my 6wks old sleeps alot and she's growing really well, gone from 7lb 13oz at birth to 11lb4oz, so i guess that makes alot of sence, thou when she is awake she whinges after feeds and is hard to get back to sleep, go figure!

sheree- holy cats! your baby is really growing! i wonder how much ben weighs now as he'll be 6 weks on monday. he was 8 lb at birth and 9 lb 9 oz at his one month check-up. yeah, ben will stay up to eat a lot during a growth spurt, then sleep a lot for a couple days afterwards. i think it is pretty normal.
